They aren't exactly the same as a Pronto. They both have the same thick, tough media that a lot of off-brand filters do. However, Prontos have round holes in the center tube, while Driveworks have directional flutes. Driveworks also seems to use coil springs instead of leaf springs.
This is true for all the ones I've seen, anyway. Given the fluted tubes and coil springs, I'd guess they are a Donaldson offshoot/clone.
I'd take the 80% efficiency comment with a grain of salt. It was a Fram rep that gave that figure, and if you look on the box of most Frams the efficiency it lists for all brand-x filters is 80% (vs the Fram's 96%). Seems to just be the company line.
FWIW, I've been putting DW-5436s in Mom's VUE and it hasn't blown up yet.
