What can I expect if I change fills from Mobile One extended to Amsoil 0w30? I am looking for longer OCIs using an EO9 Amsoil filter.

Gas mileage? Durability?

A salesman said it was too slippery, but does not compute!!

What kind of car? Engine? Miles on rig? Driving style? Current MPG?

What is too slippery?

Paul

OOPS. 1998 Corolla VE(1.8) 3 speed auto with 110,000mi. Mostly highway, but only seems to burn oil above 70mph. For example there is 1,000mi on it now and the dip stick is the same as it was 1000mi ago, but from past experience I know if I take a few long runs that add up to 1,000mi(65-75mph)I will be down about a pint. I get 34mpg now over at least 3 tanks of gas.

"What is too slippery?" The oil, and yes he was suggesting Amsiol 10w30 so he could of made it up.

He's on crack.

What are you currently running for an OCI? What are you currently running for a filter?

Amsoil is a FANTASTIC product. Unfortunately, some of the people who sell it (NOT Gary or Pablo on this board; they are both excellent) hype it up to be something it's not.

I have had excellent results with M1 and Amsoil. I don't feel that one is significantly better than the other.

my bro went from M1 and fram filter to Amsoil Asl and wix filter and he said his car is running much better and smoother. But what could cause the difference the oil or the filter? hehe

Mobile 1 extended filter with 7,000 OCIs. If I extend my OCI using Amsoil 0w30 and an Amsoil long life oil filter I intend to do a Blackstone test at 10,000mi, I already have the kit. This whole thing was brought about because I caught a quick oil change place not changing the filter so I'm doing it myself and doing a transmission drain and fill along with coolant at the same time using a rented lift.

We went from M1 5w30 with a K&N to ASL 5w30 and a PureONE oil filter on my mom's Expedition. There is no discernible difference in how the truck runs or sounds.

That being said, I have noticed my Lincoln sounds better using the Donaldson filters on startup than it did with the PureONE's I was running previously. After 5 seconds, there is no difference. I don't feel this is enough to draw any sort of conclusion from though......

Have you done a UOA on the M1 you are currently running? You may be able to run it longer than you have been........

Well, unless you do a UOA on the M1, you really don't know if you are just wasting it......

Basically you'll get an oil that will last about 35% longer in service. I also believe the SSO will control wear better, based on oil analysis.

Amsoil is a great product, based on what I've heard from friends as well as the UOAs posted here. But I think what's happening is that other oils are "catching up" with it performance-wise, and that's beginning to make the higher cost of Amsoil look like you're wasting your money by buying it. Of course, if you factor in the longer OCIs afforded by using Amsoil, the cost comparison gets much closer. But there's something a little scary to me about running the same oil for 20- 25,000 miles.

I just put the ASL in my truck 1000 miles ago, and I'm thinking 10k is as long as I want to go with it. The question is, if I do that am I getting the full value from the product? Of course, you have to define "value". Moneywise, not so much. But I really like the idea of putting the best oil in my truck, even if it ends up costing a bit more, and I get perceived value from that.
