Yes but for warranty purposes no. But 5w30 changed on time will give the engine decades of reliable service. I know 5w20 is fine but I do kind of cringe out of habit.

Ford is big on 5w20 in their rides. In my buddies f150 they told him to stay with 5w20. Many a macho man has destroyed their ford engines using 5w40 and so on. It destroyed the cam and mileage went south. I would go to a ford forum and check out that data first. Thicker oil does not mean great wear all the time. Some oil passages are made for thinner oils, just saying, so check out a ford forum just to be sure.....

Thats for the most part a myth. The passages still need to be large enough to pass lube at sub zero temps.

Use 5w30 if you need to, use 5w20 as a default. There is a reason why Ford specced it for that.

Plenty of UOAs seem to show that there's not much practical difference between slightly different weight oils. On the other hand, you would be hard pressed to see an advantage, either.

MC 5w-20 is terrific stuff. Let someone else be the guinea pig. Unless you happen to live in Phoenix, Arizona and it happened to be May, I don't think I would even consider it (warranty issues aside).

I'm all for using 0/5W-20 where it's spec'd, but that seems like a pretty silly statement without proof. There are many here that have used 0/5W-40 in their Ford engines with no issues. Personally I wouldn't go heavier than a XW-30 oil and would stick with a XW-20 weight unless there was a consumption issue. But never heard of any issues using a 40W oil.

A lot of fleets use 15w40. 15w40 is even touted as a oil for mixed gas/diesel fleets. The difference between 5w30 and 5w20 is about the same as whole milk and skim. Really. I have used 10w30, 5w30 and 5w20 without any noticeable difference. 5w20 is for Café standards and Ford specs 5w30 in about every other country for the same engines. My Dodge specs 5w20, yet they put a service bulletin, if you tow, to use 5w30. That doesn't give me much more faith in thin oil. Your always going to have the stringent rule followers and your always going to have the people that buck the system, in this case. Its not a big deal.

Ok,,has anyone driving a
f150 , v8 blown their engine using 5w30? If not, then 5w30 will be ok. Has anyone blown their F150 engine using 5w40? If not, then you are good to go. Only time will tell...

Someone here awhile back posted a service bulletin from Ford saying to use a 40 weight (10W40?) in their V8`s if you`re experiencing a noisy engine.

Yes but why? Most 5W-20 oils are good solid oils, especially Motorcraft's 5W-20. However the chances of a SN rated 5W-30 causing oil related engine problems is infinitesimal. Ask the service manager, not the writer, at the dealer. They're the ones who determine to give you a hard time or not about warranty work. I think you'll find they are more interested in timely oil/filter changes using a reasonable grade and current API specifications.

I believe you're correct. That was on their earlier 3V modular engines from 2004. Don't know whether it still applies to later models.

I had a brand new 1982 280ZX 5 speed. It was a total blast to drive and ran great. Unfortunately a drunken tow truck drive rear ended us. That sadly totaled the car. We were pushed under the rear of the car in front of us. I took a real beating from my insurance company. The drunk that hit us had no insurance of course.
