Oil Weight for Kaw FX801V

Kawasaki was claiming up to 300f oil temps. I've not verified that in personal experience, maybe I'll remember this summer to check and compare to the Onan on our old Wheel Horse.

I was at Kawasaki school today. Part of the training.

Did they ever say how much zinc was in the Kawasaki oil? Dealers here are real big on insisting to use it for the zinc but when ask them how much it has, they have no clue. They just say it has zinc and passenger car oil has none...... but most motor oils I have ever seen has zinc in it. I know the Amsoil small engine oil now has about the same level as most passenger car oils.

Passenger Car Motor Oil (PMCO on here) has zinc and phos but the levels are limited by the certifications the oil has. It is generally believed that high levels of zinc and phos can harm vehicle emissions equipment over time. Since lawn equipment doesn't have cats, those air cooled engines can utilize an oil with much higher levels of anti-wear additives.

A search here will reveal VOA of Kohler's 10-30 semi synthetic oil, look how much higher the zinc and phos levels are vs a passenger car motor oil that has an SP API approval.

It depends on the grade. It’s also why I use a Euro 0W-40 in my OPE.

Tech I spoke to at Amsoil claimed the zzdp would leave deposits in a hot air-cooled engine when questioned them on the lower zinc levels in their small engine oil. Anyway, I have been using Mobil or Valvoline motorcycle oils in mine last summer that have showed to have around 1000 ppm zinc and phos or more. Does it really matter being the spring pressures are so low, I don't know, but it makes me feel better.

No, the amount wasn't mentioned, only that it has it. I've been tempted to take a virgin sample of each grade over to Blackstone out of curiosity. As mentioned here before, the valve spring pressure is really not very much on these. I worry more about shearing than anything else.

A no-VM oil such as the one from HPL would be helpful there. It cannot shear with no VII.

Euro 0-40, even the FS, doesn't have the levels of ZDDP that the Kohler oil does.

Okay sure, but you were saying that it was specifically due to the license which isn't true. There are other 40-grade oils which might satisfy your desire for extra ZDDP.

For what I have the amount in 0W-40 is more than sufficient. My OPE does not have high valve spring pressures and I'm not just breaking them in.

I probably didn't word it correctly but I believe that in resource conserving grades phosphorous is limited to 800ppm and Zinc has no limits defined but, in practicality, the levels of the 2 will not be drastically different in an oil(?).
I was under the impression that those limits did not apply to the 40W and above oils.
