oil suggest for this old 5.0

Carroll Shelby said it best.......horsepower sells cars, torque wins races.
A 5.0 Windsor hits 300tq at 4200 rpm however its got 250 at 1500 rpm.
That's exactly as overkill stated when if you aren't familiar with the mustangs handling you could easily lose control.
There aren't many cars as fun as a v8 fox. It's a go cart basically with crazy power to weight,on stock rims and rubber a disaster waiting to happen really.
I totalled a 92 that I had sold my 99 firebird, with a 5.7 and six speed for and going from the f body to a fox is a serious change.
The firebird was very stable and if the rear broke loose it was easy to get it back. Not so in a mustang. If it breaks loose at 70 mph your either screwed,or a great driver.
I had that mustang for 10 hours and it was totalled. I bought it on a Friday night, after work so I couldn't get it insured,so after a couple boxes of beer I thought it was wise to borrow a plate from my old car, throw it on and go for a spin up the 400.
It wasn't wise. Glad I'm a better driver and put 17's on every single fox since. The stock tires were brutal when wet. It was a fishtail machine.
Still breaks my heart every time I think about it. Maybe that's why I've got 4 mustangs now,to make up for my first one.
And my firebird was fast in a fairly straight line. Like the Ontario highways but that mustang would out corner it no sweat.
A couple years ago a friend and I went to kelowna. He had a 2000 camaro that was cammed and tuned. It put 350 to the wheels.
My stockish 2000 gt was behind him through the prairies but once we hit the mountains he couldn't keep up,unless there was a long enough straight away for him to pick up the lost ground.
I learned if the the speed limit said 70km/h I could take those bends 100kms faster than the limit said,so 170 in this example.
Mustangs corner like they are on rails.
Love em

You realize that that vehicle put out 210hp if lucky that year, and 175hp the year before (and in CA), right?

Not saying it is a bad car - always wanted one... But cars today are putting out that kind of HP from 4-cyl engines.

It's the ~300lb-ft of torque it made that makes it fun. My old '87, when stock, would obliterate the tires if you looked at it wrong, LOL!

We have a saying at the strip: Never brag about bad traction!

While you're spinning I'm winning!

I never implied that a 210hp 4 cyl car is faster or more fun to drive though they may be to some.

Point still is that people like to swoon over the good old days, and a lot of the cars were beautiful/classic/Id love to own one... But when you compare what they can do to rather pedestrian midsize sedans, for example, they just arent that capable, IMO.

More fun to drive, perhaps. I drive a 21 year old, 138hp sedan for that reason too... FUn to drive without a ton of torque, but Im sort of in that same boat... But Im still not so sure that the "good old days" were all that great...

I never had a problem at the track, LOL! Ran ET Street tires. But on the road, if you had regular tires on it, it was very easy to incite tire spin.

That's always fun, maybe not the best way to get to the front but fun nonetheless.

At least you don't break many driveline pieces when you spin 'em!

That's right! And fun it was. The car had no nannies, it was definitely a blast!

might have something to do with ASSuming that there's some fuel in the equation, although I don't think anyone mentioned biblical floods like you are intimating they did.

Any one know what kind of mod that devalue the car when resale ? I want keep this car 99% original unless something break . I am slow back into mustang . I am a Chevy camaro guy . I was a mustang guy 6 year ago . Now I'm back to mustang . And definallly getting another fox body and mod the [censored] out off it soon . But this one I leave it stock .

On my MB cars, ANY mod is a devaluation. But those cars are owned for engineering and longevity.

Mustangs are a bit different. Still, id avoid most mods because of the potential that someone thrashed on the car.

That said, if something like a carb is in need of repair, and an upgrade/better unit can be installed, why not?

Alot of guys replaced the stock carb and manifold with aftermarket intake & carb and not only gained hp/torque but also better driveability and even gained some gas mileage when upgrading exhaust. It's all up to you.You can gain alot doin small upgrades and not even take the valve covers off.

If you have a pro port the cylinder heads and intake, and you install roller rocker arms, and the right cam, you can gain some performance without making a change that anyone will see. If you need to rebuild it, then you use a stroker kit.

TBH the only mods that will devalue a fox body are cosmetic changes and shoddy workmanship.

No one puts OEM quality brake rotors on fox body. No one.

Its carb'd. So mods like exhaust, intake won't do anything without changing jets, reading plugs, then repeat.
Or dyno tune for 500 minimum, and a hole for a wideband in your exhaust.
However these cars are everywhere and parts plentiful. You can acquire the stuff from the forum dirt cheap. That how I built my 2000 gt into a Mach clone,it took me years to get them all but I saved thousands because you always have a seller that is highly motivated because their broke.
I've seen guys sell rims a year old for half off new because he can't eat them.
One mans emergency is anther mans Christmas.

I love to mod cars and support anyone's right to mod theirs. But I can be turned off in a second by a cobbled up monster. I'll leave those for others to purchase.

The only modded cars I have ever purchased were quickly turned for profit, except for my replica jensen healey roadster, which was beautifully done by a real professional with an eye for details.
