oil suggest for this old 5.0

On the topic of modern 4 cylinder cars vs. the older ones I had a Honda Accord with an f22b1 (vtec) for a while, it was pretty fast for a sedan, but I ultimately sold it because I was bored while driving it, I like my trucks, and especially my F150, theres just something about the sounds it makes as it lumbers down the road

On that note, my 5.0 is an old flat tappet cam motor, My last fill was Pennzoil Platnium 5w30, I like it better than the Mobil 1 High Mileage I had in there, quieter, peppier and seems to get about .5-1 mpg better

Sharp looking car. I picked up a '85 GT once for parts and always liked the body style better than my '89. With that said, I normally used 15w40 in my '89 GT with 120,000 miles on it. It ran fine with 10w30, but it consumed a few quarts per oil change vs. almost none with 15w40.

Considering the age of the car, I would carefully check all the vacuum lines. It likely has a few leaks. Freshen the carb, plugs/wires/cap/rotor, and check the timing.

89 5.0 should have a roller cam

on the cars it was, on the pickup the 5.0 kept the flat tappet till 1992. although the block was roller ready in 87 so building a roller 5.0 for a pick up doesn't mean you have to find a mustang block

Trucks had roller blocks as early as '85.5, the one I had didn't have the spider bosses machined or tapped but was a roller casting...

That'd be because all the blocks were the same casting for cars and trucks

Fair enough. My experience is with mustangs, hence the assumption which I now know is incorrect.
Thanks

I guess I may not know all that I thought according to the poster above me if they were missing parts, I'm going off what I've gathered through internet research as I'm gathering parts to build a roller 5.0 to put in my truck
