Oil: Pennzoil Ultra or Mobil 1 Extended Performance
Filter: Bosch DistancePlus or Purolator Synthetic
Run the oil for 5000 miles on the first change to clean up the engine a bit. Use a Purolator PureOne for this. Then refill with the same synthetic and change it every 10000 or 1 year!

Wow, That's a great price.

I got 2 filters off amazon, ready to go. Awesome

Your 2 selections are more $$, but Walmart is still the place to go for them also. The reason behind Mobil 1 High Mileage was experience. I would almost guarantee you get a external gasket leak switching over to Full Synthetic at that mileage. Normal. gaskets and seals don't last forever, outgass over time. Natural aging. Shrink and harden from repeated heat over that many years, that many miles. Full synthetic oils find and expose shrunken seals slipping by them. Leak. or..maybe all the rubber on that engine has already been replaced and your good to go.

I'd probably run Rotella T5 or T6 considerably longer than either Mobil 1 Extended Performance or PU. I consider HDEO oils to be "off the shelf" as much as M1 or PU. :-)

Good point about T6! Very stout oil

I agree, T6 is great stuff but a 5w40 with an HTHS of around 4.0 seems a bit extreme for an engine spec'd for 5w30 with a typical HTHS of 3.0 give or take.

The Mobil 1 High Mileage would be about 3.3, much more reasonable IMO.

My old 1.8L Corolla 4 banger loved T6. Really quiet, more power than the 5w30 conventional it was on. Maybe the extra zzdp, not sure. Even in the cold no ticks, was great! Gas mileage stayed right at 30.

Am I recommending? No. I was running it because of oil consumption issues. Agree with others go thinner when possible.

Isn't the factory recommended OCI 10,000mi?

I'm not familiar with all Honda engines, but my daughter inlaw has an "04 Pilot with 10,000mi. interval, and my son still has a '95 accord that came with 7,500mi OCI.

I am just going under the assumption here that at sometime ten years ago or so Honda extended their entire line-up out to 10,000mi., if your car already has a 10,000mi. OCI from the factory you don't need any of the expensive choices mentioned above, any current speced oil will suffice, proper grade of course.

If it has a 3.5l VTEC, I would go with Pennzoil Ultra. That has proven to be the best choice on my Ridgeline. Quiet and smooth with no consumption whatsoever (yet anyway).

Same for both my Hondas. My Civic consumed 1qt of Mobil 1 5w-20 in 2500mi, and my Accord consumer 1/2qt of the same in 3750 (autocrossing and racing alot however). I switched both cars to Pennzoil Ultra and there has been no measurable burn in either cars.

Pennzoil Platinum 5w30
Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w30
both oils are about $25 for 5 qt jug at WM
A friend's 120k miles 2002 3L V6 Camry almost immediately began to leak (read, "pour")oil at valve cover gaskets when using Pennzoil Ultra. Strangely enough, this engine previously had no leaks with Pennzoil Platinum. Replaced valve cover gaskets and leaks stopped. They were due to be replaced anyway. While in there, found top of engine was spotless as owner had always used synthetic since new at 5000 mile intervals. This engine is known to sludge if oil is not changed soon enough.
Then, after gaskets replaced, went back to PP, but engine started consuming a lot of oil for unknown reason, like 4 qts in 5000 miles. Changed to Maxlife 10W-40 for yearound (5000 mile oci) use and consumption dropped to normal again. This car is driven daily in Atlanta Georgia area. I am curious if a Valvoline MaxLife 10w30 might give good results as well, but owner is happy with what is in there now.

My point here is, it might not be best idea to introduce a high TBN (high "detergency") oil in a high mileage engine right off the bat... oils like PU or Mobil 1 Extended Performance for example. Might be better to start off with one step down in detergency, like the 2 oils I mentioned at top of my post.
If all goes well with one of those oils, I would be tempted to stay with what works to give you little to no consumption or leaks. With your type of driving, you should have no trouble to safely go 10k using either of those oils. If you wanted to step up to 12 or 15k miles, then Mobil 1 Extended Performance or PU might be a better choice. Just my 2 cents from personal experience. What filters did you end up with from Amazon?

LeakySeals,

What about a vehicle with 115,000 miles do you believe that the seals on an engine with this mileage will leak switching to Full Synthetic? I just purchased the vehicle and would like to switch to Pennzoil Ultra. I don't know what the history of the vehicle is before I purchased it.

It's tough to say. My engine had 135K and no issues, if the engine was maintained well it would be okay. If there's a lot of buildup, you may see some issues.

If its never been apart, I would think something will leak from somewhere after a couple oil changes. Anywhere from being wet to a drip. Go ahead and try the PU. If it leaks just switch to a High Mileage Full Synthetic or fix it.

Important: As stated above the Full Synthetic doesn't cause the leak, it exposes a pending leak that was not breached by thicker flowing conventional oil, or was clogged by deposits that a Full Synthetic will remove. Once the leak is exposed, once oil gets in that breach, its almost impossible to stop without repair. A High Mileage oil can swell it, stop a drip, but it will always be "wet" once its breached.

I accidentally did not complete the order. then i looked at the shipping cost, and decided just to shop locally for the filters when i get the oil.

LeakySeals,

Thanks for the input! I have two vehicles that I currently use PU in and would've liked to keep the oil the same across the board. Not worth the risk in opening up potential oil leaks.
