Supposing that OP's new engine is indeed both turbo and GDI, I agree that after the break in period, and that could be as early as the next oil change or as late as after 30K miles, in order to protect the turbo, a 10W30 (the grade that is suited to OP's climate, yet does not really sacrifice fuel economy) that is synthetic of some sort should be beneficial to OP's engine. Such SN GF-5 Group III synthetics as SynPower 10W30, Pennzoil Platinum 10W30, Quaker State Ultimate Durability 10W30, Super Tech Synthetic 10W30 (if underneath the bottle it be indicated with "WPP" or. "WNE" for Warren). Besides the favorable climate, 10W30 grade of any kind of motor oil is more shear stable than its 5W30 counterpart, and for this reason 10W30 Group III synthetic (chemically dino, but essentially synthetic in performance) should help protect the turbo for longer and should be a bit stouter in resisting fuel dilution caused by the DI system. Pennzoil Ultra is a tick higher in SAPS, but not really a disadvantage against DI, because its Noack is very low; only problem is some areas the OP can easily buy it off the shelf for reasonable or even low prices, other areas no.
If indeed OP's system is both turbo and DI, as far as easily acquired conventional optimal for OP's engine, I recommend Mobil Super 5000 10W30. It is low to mid SAPS therefore good for OP's engine, its additive system especially resists oil oxidation and also TBN depletion is slow, even though the starting TBN is on the low side. It is safe to suppose that something similar continued with the EcoBoost which now specs 5W30 instead of 5W20 because of the turbo and DI. Although OP also is equipped with variable valve timing, otherwise the design of OP's engine is different, as the manufacturer specifically says 10W30 is good for OP's typical ambient temps. So, Mobil Super 5000 10w30 for somewhere between 4K and 6K is most likely a cost effective, easily available conventional alternative to 10W30 mainstream synthetics that carry moderately high TBN (mid to high SAPS). And either way, OP will experience the same fuel dilution, etc. so that OP should not expect to do extended drain intervals, unless OP's vehicle be operated under normal service.
