Hi i have a (New to me)2001 Honda Oddyssey mini van with 250,000 miles on it. It really is in Like New cond, (except the transmission, but hey its a Oddyssey...) i really love driving it and It uses no oil.

I drive 20 to 40 minutes at a time between jobs. 4 jobs a day.
Average 150 mile a day.
80% Hwy driving at 65-80 MPH.

I want to go as long as possible between oil changes so i was wondering what Oil should i use.

Thanks for any help.

PS, i did try to search other threads that may have covered this but i could not figure out how to narrow the search to only search titles.

I would run whichever 5w30 synthetic is on sale at the time of your next change. All of the big auto parts stores always have the "5 qt + filter" deals on one of the big brands.

150 miles a day mostly on the highway is not hard on the oil. I would try 6,000 miles on the first change, get it analyzed, and see if it can go longer. I suspect it could hit 7,500 or 8,000.

Super clean engine, no oil consumption at all, And no idea what the previous owner used other than they really took great care of it.

Hwo or where, do you get analyling done?

PU or Mobil 1 Extended Performance will probably go the longest for a shelf oil

Theres also Schaefer and Amsoil if you dont mind ordering oil

Not sure what PU or EP is, but M1 im sure is Moble 1. We are talking 100% synthtic right?

Pennzoil ultra is PU, Mobil 1 Extended Performance is the extended drain interval version.

I'd go PU at least once to make sure the engine is in fact as clean as you assume inside of it (high detergent oil), then would do whatever major brand synthetic Walmart had on sale probably. Amazon has Mobil 1 filters for 8$ still I believe (I just got a few), so maybe grab a few of those and buy the synthetic separately to save money.

Pennzoil ultra
Mobil 1 extended performance

Both are synthetics and maybe capable of 15k given the right conditions.
You should get regular used oil analysis to be safe.

The safest way to go is pick an oil and dump it at 5k then run it again to 7500 and get a used oil analysis. Then if you can extend to 10k and get another used oil analysis and so forth.
I wouldn't recommend just pushing it to extended drains blindly although some do it, like myself.

Your high miles will be easy on oil, so several of the top quality oils should be able to do 15k. The Mobil Extended comes to mind for one.

What grade is that van spec'd for? 5w30?

Mobil 1 with no "e" (not to be confused with a "mobile" phone or "Mobile, Alabama") is good. So are the other recommendations and PP. If it were me at that mileage I'd go for Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w30. Its good for a 10k OCI, but I would go 7-8k for a while, see how that goes. $24.50 for a 5 qt jug at Walmart

5-30 appears to be the correct weight for this van.

10,000 miles is perfect for my brain to stay on top of and remember. It's at 253,000 right now so PU until 260,000 then Mobil 1 Extended Performance, it is.

Wow, That's a great price.

I got 2 filters off amazon, ready to go. Awesome

I'd probably run Rotella T5 or T6 considerably longer than either Mobil 1 Extended Performance or PU. I consider HDEO oils to be "off the shelf" as much as M1 or PU. :-)
