Hey guys, this is my first post here, I am looking for some help. I have a 2007 WRX STI that I daily drive year round in Wisconsin and am looking for a oil recommendation. In spring through fall I autocross the car on a regular basis. I ran Amsoil last season and would like the switch to something cheaper/more available for ease of topping off between changes. The car goes through a fair amount of oil on race weekends. Do you guys think I should run different weights during racing season and during winter? Reading through a few posts, it seems Pennzoil Platinum seems to be a highly recommended oil that is readily available. I am sure I am missing some info, so feel free to ask.

Thanks!

I'm running it right now and we are well into the negatives.

never
Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w40
its bad only by the sound of it ahah.... kiding
and your millage will drop like ... heck

PP 5w30 .. sounds good
always 5W30

but... if you go hard driving in a track from time to time ... i advise you to stay with amsoil!!!!!!!!!

Funny you mention mileage. I've run everything from 0w20 to 5w50 and there were never any discernible effects on fuel mileage. But this is a 5.0L Ford, so YMMV.

But not in an STI that is auto-x'd, IMO, unless you can find the 5W-40. Bang for the buck, I would consider Rotella T 5W-40. M1 TDT too, but then again you might be getting into Amsoil price territory. Whatever you run, do a uoa.
