Ok, so my grandpas got 2 trucks that I need oil reccomendations for. One is a 1972 Chevy 3/4 ton with the original 350 and 171K. Normally it just gets whatever conventional 10w30 is on sale every 3K. I thought about switching to a High Mileage oil in it. The other is a 1993 F250 with a 5.8L and 148K (Farm Truck). I think it recommends 5w30 but I have no idea what to put in it. TIA for your suggestions!

On the '72 I would run SL or older 5W30, 10W30, or whatever HDEO/diesel rated oil you can find, for cam and lifter protection. The Ford will probably be OK on any decent anything 5W30 or 10W30.

How cold in the winter? Im thinking that rotella T5 10w30 would be a good selection for both, but if they see -30F duty or something like that, then it may be different.

The Ford sees year round temps, for -30 up to 110. The chevy only comes out in the summer so 10w30 should be OK

I defintely want to see some pics, I got myself a 2000 OBS 2500 lifted and love the older Chevy trucks...as for oil a 10w30 would be perfect for the chevy and for the Ford I would use a 5w30 since it sees those cold startups..Ive run Valvoline High Mileage in my truck with good results.

Since you mentioned that the Ford sees -30, Id probably say that you'd be better off with a 5w- oil.
Since Im sure they are worked hard, Id consider running Rotella syn 5w-40.
