oil filter testing

A long time ago there was a test done on different oil filters where dirty oil was flowed through them for a period of time to see how well the filter removed the particles from the oil. This was on a old webpage is mostly text based tabulated data. 20+ years ago.

Has there been any recent testing like this on modern filters to see how well the new filter media (synthetic) actually performs vs the latest cellulose filters? Both new and after some long runs. I do recall that most filters got better and better as they accumulated dirt (makes since).

Read this thread from the linked post below and forward. Or read the whole thread. Just because the media is synthetic doesn't mean it's going to filter better.

And also note that every one of these filters got LESS efficient at they loaded up - some worse than others. The filters that were the most efficient were also the ones that lost less efficiency as they loaded up as the delta-p increased. The thought that oil filters "get more efficient as they load up" is pretty much a misconception.
