I have decided to put my 2010 Tucson on a 6 month spring/fall OCI to match my older Accord. The Tucson will see an average annual mileage of 13,000 with a pretty even split of highway/city street use. The 2002 Accord which this replaced was on a 5k oci on dino and a Purolator classic filter. Because I am not too familiar with the Hyundai 2.4l engine, my question is do you think it would be wise to press some conventional (PYB/QSGB) out to 6500 miles, or should I move up to synthetic? I am probably going to go with either a Wix or a PureOne filter. Thoughts??

Hyundai says 6 months or 3750 miles which ever comes first for severe driving conditions.
follow that or they will do their best to wiggle out of the warranty.
Good thing is they usually lose in court

Why not up to a synthetic blend... that should hold up a little better and get you over the hump. I use Mag1 oil... and a Private label version of Mag1. It's never been a disappointment, and it's quite cost effective.

Crazy...the 10yr/100k powertrain warranty you hear advertised is non-transferrable to second owners. And my conditions are not considered severe so it is 12/7500.

Stay with Hyundai oil filter - they are very well made . Next I would run a OCI of QSUD 6 months / 6,000 miles , keep track of your purchases and call it a day ...

+1

I do similar driving conditions in my Hyundai. I run 5k OCI's (easy to remember) with OEM filter and usually 5w20 PYB. I do use PP in the coldest months for 1 OCI. I am averaging ~18k miles per year. 5k is a nice interval and it splits the difference between severe and regular- doubt Hyundai would have an issue if I had a warranty claim. So far with almost 60k I have yet to see the dealer for anything warranty related.

+1 milehighhyundai ...If I used conventional oil I would run a 5K OCI as a split between severe & regular service . The 6K / 6 month OCI I run for QSUD (or similar synthetics) is about right for the NASCAR wannabe drivers in my family .
