Oil Filter part #'s

Quick, hopefully easy question.

I bought an oil filter for my new mazda3, part # LF10-302-14A from my local mazda dealer. Being a cheap b!@#$%^, i ordered additional filters from a dealer on the internet, however the part #s' on these filters are LF05-302-14A. Anyone know if these filters can also be used? Why would the part #'s change? I e- mailed mazda; no response. i'm a little afraid to use the the internet ordered filters.

Any input appreciated.

I might try to cross reference both to a Fram filter.

why not phone your local Mazda dealers parts dept?
It might be a new change up.
Either way they can probably tell you what it fits.

what kind of mazda do you have. i can look it up by application a probably get you a number you can use or reference

9641 is the STP/Fram I'm used to seeing on the Mazda 3 with the 2.3 and then a 3614 spin-on type on the 2.0.

Thanks all. I received a response from the internet dealer; he said both filters were the same. I did an oil change today (the weather was beautiful), held my breath, and started the car. Everything is well. The car is an '08 mazda3 with the 2.0 motor. Now if i can only figure out how to read that d!@# dipstick!

How to read the dipstick? Run the car, shut it off, wait 5 minutes, take the dipstick out and wipe it. Then stick it back in, wait a second and then pull it out and read it.

Some dipsticks like to jerk you around a bit.

great car, no problems yet. But that dipstick is a small iron cylinder attached to a metal wire. Plain weird and near impossible to read. Not good if you're OCD with this stuff!

I've never seen a dipstick that was very easy to read. All you do is look for the notch and if the fluid level is below that add some oil.
