Oil Filter Help in canada

Well.. stated by others, Walmart no longers carry AC Delco filters.. the closest place that does charges about $8 for them. ( There's a new auto parts store just opening.. so I don't know what they will be charging ). That is irrelevant to me now cause I will be moving @ month end and will have to look for new place to pick up good oil filters.

As mentioned, Quaker State seems to be based off Fram in Canada.. but maybe not the white Quakers States?

What else is equivalant or good to AC Delcos that I can find for now At the local Canadian Tire or Walmart or any other superchain other then NAPA or specialty parts store that charges me an arm and a leg for the filterS?

Why don't you go to a dealer? Depending on you your car you can get a resonably priced oil filter not necessarily from your dealer. Spending that much money for a low quality filter just because it is readily available doesn't make sence. Baldwin is another price/quality option. Most of them are about $6. And you have free delivery in Canada.

Go into Carquest and pick up their premium filter, it's the same as NAPA Gold but at a lower price.

Thanx for the reply guys.. just looked up Mapquest and there's one on my way to and from work at my new place.. woo hoo !!! How much are they? Out of curiousity, and who makes NAPA gold?

They are made right here in Ontario actually, by Dana in Cambridge. The NAPA Gold, Wix, Carquest Premium and Kralinator oil filters are all identical, just with different paint jobs.

Their price varies depending on application, I've seen them as low as $8 for the one for my car, up to $13 for the one for my mom's old Probe. But they are still $2 less than NAPA Gold, even though the filters are identical.

There isn't any partsource near me.. although theres one opening up where I'm currently living right now.. Is bosch oil filters that good? I know their O2 sensors and spark plugs don't mix well with my car L67 series II engine.. ( Bonneville Supercharged 3.8L ) and a few other peoples.. but there's also the flip side that there's a few people that has no problem with them

Some people here use the SuperTech oil filters that Wal-Mart carries. I hear that they are Champion filters in disguise, but are pretty inexpensive at $2 USD.

Unfortunately we can't get those oil filters at our Walmarts in Canada.

Avoid Partsource at all costs. We have 2 of them in London, ON and all they carry is Fram

. Talk about a wall of orange! Canadian Tire runs these stores.

All the filters carried by Canadian Tire are made by Fram. The house brands, Quaker State, everything.

Actually, the new "white" Quaker State filters at Canadian Tire are not made by Fram. Most tend to agree that they are Purolators.

I just picked-up a (shrink-wrapped - no box) NAPA Gold 1036 (similar to an AC Delco PF-52 in size) oil filter for $6.44Cdn [suggested price on the bill says $8.81] +taxes.

Is Carquest Premuim oil filters really that much cheaper than a NAPA Gold oil filters? (I don't have a Carquest near me; but do have a NAPA location close by.)

Is 2$ really worth debating over?? A quality part that is under 15$ to me is a deal.. I walk over to Napa and buy the gold, or drive to Carquest for 2$ in gas and get theirs for cheaper.. We easily throw 10$ on lottery tickets, but not on an oil filter.. Come on guys...

The PF 47 used on many GM car is : 7.20 at the dealership. The same at carquest is 5.83, and the NAPA gold is 5.20.

Canadian tire and Partsource ( same company ) both can sell you Bosch filters. You likely have to order it.

They are cheap ( $5 vs $10 for the same filter from a local parts jobber place ). Bosch filters are made by Champion which makes very good filters.

The hard part though is convincing the people at the store that YES they can REALLY order them. Some stores have been trained well by VW owners like I had to, so they don't argue as much now.

Napa Gold is made by Wix - it is identical to Kralinator in Canada, just painted a different colour.

Fleetguard is also a very good filter - what I like about them is that you can phone them for filter specs. and they are always very obliging.

Patman In Canada perhaps prices are different but I priced a oil filter for my car here today. 2004 Nissan SE-R Dealer 6.00 Car Quest 7.42 NAPA 6.99. These store are price gouging I am sure.
