usually I use brad penn 10w30 , wix filter or puralotor, and change every 3k. this summer I plan to drive from Albany ny to Portland or for the buick nationals car show. about 7k round trip. will my oil filter be good for 7k?

OP
What kind of shape is the engine in as far as deposits are concerned?
If the engine is clean then any name brand filter should easily last the 7000 miles you'll be driving.
I've been running tough guards for 10000 miles for years now and not a single issue whatsoever.
Filters get better as they trap contaminants so even the puro classic or the orange can can do 10k miles in a clean engine. It is entirely dependent on the condition of the engine.
So if you feel that the engine is clean and has minimal deposits then you shouldn't have a single issue running your filter out to 7000 miles.
I consistently double the manufacturers advertised mileages and I routinely cut open my filters and I've yet to see any filter to plugged to work.

The filter should easily last that mileage assuming, as Clevy noted, that the engine is in decent mechanical condition.

car has 70k miles and has no shudge issues. will the brad penn oil last 7k miles? its a synthic blend

Maybe do a UOA and see? M1 0w-40 would no problem.

7k is a stretch for a carburated engine. And "synthetic blend" means nothing nowadays. But beings its all highway on one trip fuel dillution and condensation build up should be minimal. I say go ahead and do it but dont make that mileage your regular interval.
Also, like OVERKILL said, M1 0w40 would be a much better oil for the job. And it actually has pretty high zinc and phosphorus numbers (higher than some hdeos) so it might be a good idea to switch before the trip. If not 0w40 then maybe M1 HM, it would also suite your car better.

I don't know anything about that oil but Rotella is a high zddp oil. There was somebody on here that ran this for 10k in a mini van with good results.

Some comments:

1) I made 3 trips (in 3 different years) from my home in Alberta to Bowling Green, KY to the GSCA Nationals with my 68 GS400. I would also tack on a vacation (Orlando one year, Corpus Christie the next, etc.) so our mileages would be very similar. These trips were made on fresh oil and a fresh filter of course but no oil change midway. My car was geared 3.64:1... much lower than yours (ergo more engine revolutions per trip) assuming you have factory gears in your Electra. This was done in the early 80's on SF Castrol GTX 20w50 oil and an AC Delco PF24. Probably 2 quarts of make up on the trip as I recall. No oil / sludge issues ever. With the better formulas today I'd have less concern now even. ZDDP, or lack thereof in modern formulas, is not an issue with the spring pressures you have in your car (assuming stock of course) and Buicks do not wear cams anyway. They have oil pump and front cam bearing issues due to the design but the cam / lifters are not an issue. ZDDP is a moot point if you are using the BP oil anyway.

2) Wix still makes the longer filter if you want, I couldn't run it on my GS because it was too close to the sway bar, if you have room in the larger Electra put the long style BOP (Buick, Olds, Pontiac) filter on.

3) Not as much mileage and a different engine but still an old carb style, I took my 1970 GTO on its last trip to Portland actually in 2011 (went on many road trips in that car too, long ones), that was using modern Shell Formula 10w40 SM and a PF24. No oil change midway and no issues.

Wix yes.
Purolator maybe, if it's a PureOne.
But I'm thinking that if you are familiar with the car's operational characteristics on a 3k mile oil change, plan on doing an oil and filter change when you get to Portland.

How familiar are you with the car's oil consumption at continuous cruising at 70+ mph? You're going to be doing a series of 500-mile days on the car. Brad Penn oils are not very available out west, so plan on carrying a few extra quarts for top-up along the way. It wouldn't hurt to check the oil each day before you start.

For a cross-country road trip in an old carbureted car, I like to have a spare fuel filter and distributor cap.

A 77 Electra is not a muscle car - valve spring pressure is not high and it's well broken in by now. I'd use any off the shelf High Mileage oil and not sweat it. Defy or Maxlife blend will more than cover it - 10W-30. (or 10W-40 if it uses oil)
