Oil Filter Discussion At Advance Auto Parts

The best way to do business with them is to place your order online, go into the store and pick it up, avoid engaging in any conversations. If you don't need the parts right away and qualify for free shipping, have them shipped to your house. That's even better.

An intelligent individual is one who listens in on one's stupidy and does the opposite.

When I picked up my first Fram ultra at aap at half price (coupon) guy stated, "that's a steal at double the price" I smiled and said yup. No desire to engage conversation.

Fram has a bad rep to work on and most people still say they are [censored]. I wouldn't try anything but an ultra.....no bottom priced filters for me.
Purolator will rebound and be the next filter of the month once an ultra fails or they cheapen it.

Advance sells Fram Ultras. I know because I've bought them there.

I sure wish they'd sell the Fram TG.

But having the Carquest Reds as well as the Ultra available for coupon use is good enough I guess.

+2

Bought one with PP 5w-30 2 weeks back for my Camry

+1!
I'll add that in my experience, most of the guys (gals too!) working in parts stores are car guys. If they weren't, they'd be working at Target, Walmart or Kroger instead. Same $$$ earned.
They'll express the occasional really ignorant opinion about a brand of oil or filter, a grade of oil or a make of car, but you see plenty of that sort of thing even here, where we are allegedly so well informed.
You also never know where people come from or what education they might have, although you can usually spot an educated person in no more than casual conversation and while that person may lack credentials they may be a well-read autodidact.

I just tell the counter monkey to get the parts I have already looked up by part number and leave. Could care less their opinion on anything else nor engage them in conversation outside my basic need of being there in the first place.

Are you talking about me? I never asked the employees for any advice, I just had the conversation with them.

If you're talking about the customer with the Silverado, he wasn't exactly asking for advice either. He just had the Motorcraft FL-500S which is a proper cross reference for his Silverado & the employee told him the filter would collapse/explode.

Not talking to anyone, just a general observation.

We all have seen the guy who comes in with a sputtering car who asks the autozone jockey what to do.
