Oil Filter Change Interval Recommendation

I plan on using Mobil 1 Extended Performance with a 15,000 OCI. What would be a good filter change interval? I am using Motorcraft filters.

Background on vehicle:
1999 Ford F150
4.2L V-6
93k miles
Used synthetic since 7300 miles.

Every 5,000 or 7,500 just to be safe.

That 15K recommendation is not for hot-rodders or engines that have been known to sludge. Also need to consider how much stop & go you drive, how many miles you drive each month & if your roads are paved or dirt-covered.

I've been using synthetics for several years & never exceeded 9K with it.... nice roads & highway traveler with little stop & go. That's with a filter change at 4.5K too. That's just me & how I want to protect my $25K investment. A good synthetic is less than $25 w/filter to change. To me, that's cheap protection.

I think you need to change filters at 7500. I think only the Mobil 1 filter and Amsoil SDF filter can go longer. Basically you need to look at top scoring filters in the SAE H806 capacity test. The last time I looked those two filters came out on top.

Even the Amsoil SDF filter should only go 12.5K miles, so if your going to go 15K miles on an oil change, change the filter half way through.

I would consider one of the two filters mentioned even if your going to change at 7500.

Go with K&N Oil filter, that one can easily go 15k

I think it would really depend on how many miles he does a year. If he's doing 15k a year ..once a year may be okay. If he doing 15k in 6 months ..he's surely okay.

Aside from commercial delivery or perpetual flogging..annual mileage tends to dictate that you have xxx # of cold starts per mile. Some here will surely cite exceptions. Unless you live in your car playing day long soccer mom ..it's hard not to have a majority of that mileage under stead state conditions.

Use a sorry filter and it may go longer

By that I mean one with poor filtering may clog later than one that filters well....scary huh
