1996 Mazda Miata, 113000 miles now. 3000 miles on M1 0W40.

I have done 2 X AutoRx after I buy this car, and after AutoRx, I used M1 0W40 in the winter. Now, I find that the oil consumption is quite a bit, I think 1qt/1300-1500 miles. As I recall the car didn't consume that much when I was doing AutoRx on dino.

Will it be possible M1 0W40 is doing some cleaning in the engine hence the consumption? I am thinking should I dump it now for oil change... or just keep topping it off...

Another question, I think I am going to do some autocross in summer, I have this choice of oil: GC, Redline, Mixing 2qts of M1 SL 10W30 and 2 qts of M1 SL 15W50, the car will still be daily driver. I know Redline will be good but I only have 4 qts left and don't wanna keep topping off with Redline if the car keep the consumption.

Lastly, how long should the OCI if I do autocross?
Thanks all!

I have been told and read it can take up to 5,000 miles or more for oil consumption to stabilize. Cleaning is probably still going on. I'd run it longer and stay with it.

How many times are you going to Auto-X in an OCI?
I used GC for 2 Track Events (200 minutes of track time total) over a 4K OCI. Other than slightly high copper, the oil did great.

Strictly based on my opinion, I don't believe an earlier OCI would have helped with the copper. I think a thicker oil may have helped. What I'm saying is, shorter OCIs aren't a solution if the application is wrong.

I will see, because the oil is still fairly clean...

I think around 2 times a month. I use the car app. 1000 miles per month.

Have you read my thread in this forum about M1 0W-40? It might need more time in the sump and/or a drain and refill. Each case is different but it may give you some insights.
All of those oils at your disposal will work well for some racing in your N/A engine. Try to stick with one of them for racing and street use.

yeah I did! except for the oil change dark fast, any consumption on your car?
should I check the oil when it was b4 cold start or after run for a while to check the cleanliness of the oil? thanks!

The first 3.5K miles had extra consumption for sure. Barely any consumption in the next fill which I only had in for 2K miles. Am on next fill right now and expect even less consumption this time.
FYI: When I used this oil years ago, I got almost zero change in the dipstick level over 5k miles.

thanks! I will watch for the consumption. If they down to low in 4000 miles, I will charge, otherwise I will wait.
