Hi,

Getting to about 6500 miles on the M1 oil in my 2016 Silverado 2500HD, 6.0 vortec. I'm in a bit of a bind due to some travel commitments and cannot change the oil myself right now. The OLM is telling me the oil change is due but I'm probably going to need to drive another 1000 miles or so on the oil before I can get around to it - I have to travel for work this week and won't be able to get to it until the weekend.

My feeling is that I am better off putting another 1000 miles on the M1 currently in the engine and waiting to change the oil myself this weekend rather than running to Jiffy Lube and having them do it today. What do you think?

M1 FS like all Euro oils are blended for extended drains of 10k miles or more. No problems waiting.

Wait until you can do it.

However, I have a question: Do you have a trusted shop that you can use to change the oil that you bring to them?

I'm doing about 9-10k on qs 5w-40 in my 6.2 and about the same mileage with 15w-40 in my old 5.3 and 6.0. Someone posted a uoa of qs 5w-40 doing 6k in an NA v6 Mercedes and it had a tbn of 7 and that's not crazy. They're meant for long drains even in turbo engines so an NA engine is a bit less hard on oil.

No, I do not have a shop that I really trust. And the 6500 miles on the current OCI are very easy, just unloaded driving around. For a 6.0 iron block without AFM or direct injection, I feel pretty comfortable with another 1k on the oil, just wanted some confirmation honestly.

If there was a strong consensus by the board that I needed to get the oil out of there ASAP, I would do it, but otherwise I am strongly inclined to go to 7500 on the oil and change it myself.

Yeah, you'll really be fine. The M1 oils are, IMO, robust enough to easily handle your situation.

A couple of years ago I exceeded my regular OCI by 30% (in terms of mileage), but it was all highway driving on a X-country trip, and it was confidence-inspiring to know that M1 EP was in the sump. Even though SuperTech could have handled the situation, I know I'd not have felt as confident in the oil.

i wouldn’t worry in the slightest. you could probably run that 0w-40 8-10k before worrying in a 6 liter unless towing a lot as the 6.0 when towing is constantly revving high.

got the oil changed and considering a longer OCI this time. i used a PF48 which i believe is an e-core. can i go to 10k with a pf48 and the m1 0w-40?
