I have a 2016 silverado 2500HD, 6.0 vortec. 120k miles on the engine. Currently has M1 0w-40 and a PF48 with about 6500 miles on the oil and filter.

I tore my left bicep hitting a punching bag and had distal biceps surgery, so I can't really change my oil. I don't want anyone else touching my truck if I can avoid it.

How much longer would you go on the oil and filter if you were in my shoes? I'm sure I'll be able to change it out later this summer, maybe go to 9k miles?

Would your answer change if the filter were a UPF48R?

6500 miles isn't much for a good euro oil in a naturally aspirated engine. Take it to 8-9k and I always overfilled my 6.0 by a quart without any issue or faster oil consumption compared to having 6 quarts so I didn't have to top up but the 15w-40 I've been using for years has slowly cleaned my rings to where i don't need to overfill anymore since it burns almost nothing now and i filled it back to level last oil change.

On that day I also experimented with it and added only 2 quarts of oil without filling the oil filter to see how little oil it needed to have pressure and to my surprise after running for several minutes and giving it gas the oil pressure needle never stumbled and the engine never made any noise and there was no red oil light either. These engines don't need much oil to keep pressure and I was giving 3k rpm's with 2 quarts and no pre filled filter.

10k no problem, heal up

Take it as long as you need to with maybe 12k being the cutoff but I'm sure you'll heal well before that. You can always change the next one early to make up for the past one.
