Just one more reason to change your oil your self. My grandpa get his oil changed at Wal-Mart and this time around I said I'd do it for free. All was going just fine until I had to drain the oil out and what do you know? The drain plug will not come off no matter what I do. I've tried breaker bars and the like. And yes... I am turning it the right way. Any ideas would be beautiful.

drive it to wal-mart. explain they always do it, but they over torqued it - u are not happy, and would they mind loosening the bolt, and then torquing it to specification. that would be the easiest thing to do, and it they strip it on the way out, which can easily happen, then they are liable. :) DO NOT HEAT IT!!! because if YOU end up stripping it, then u have one heck of a job on ur hands.

That just plain makes me mad.
Had this same problem on a buddy's 2k Neon. jiffy lube type place did it, it was on there so bad.. Its just not required. I can always crack my pan plugs (that I install) with one hand with a ratchet.. They have a gasket or rubber seal, and they just dont need to be rammed in there. People suck!

I've had the pleasure of taking off drain bolts so tight I had to use a hammer to hit the wrench with. Try that. put your socket wrenc on there, take a hammer or pipe wrency and give it a good hit, it will come loose.

Turn left, counter clockwise to open your drain plug. Use 1/2 inch breaker bar, it will come lose. My oil was changed as a part of a repair at the dealer, and yes a Gorilla worked on it, I used a 1/2 inch breaker bar on it. It will come off.

Spray some liquid wrench on it. keep spraying every hour, then let it sit over night. Wake up the next morning, spary it again. Go in get some food. Then, go attack that plug!!!

it sucks to be stupid......never ceases to amaze me......next time go to Jiffy Lube.....

talking about the oil change guys.......

I'd try giving it a blast with PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench and then tap the drain plug lightly to set up some vibration. Get a good 6 point socket and a 1/2" breaker bar, it will come off.

Edit to add:
You can also try heat from a heat gun. But keep that 6 point socket in mind.

Best idea is to take it back to Wal Mart, and have them admit it's cross threaded. Or start using a siphon tube to get the oil out.

But if it was my mistake I'd try shrinking the bolt first, before getting out the breaker bar.

Bingo. I've "adopted" some cars with the same deal. I also use a 6-point socket with a breaker bar. Hold the bar with some tension with one hand (or a buddy) leaving the end free - and then smack it with a plastic dead blow hammer.

The 6 point sockets are great S&K,Mack Tools, Snap On, even Craftsman are good. I'd be afraid to let the guys at Walmart have another try at it. Who knows the second time around the car might fall off the lift. I stay very far from those places, its not worth it.

If you do decide to bring it back to Walmart make sure you are standing there watching the guy take it out, just to be sure he doesn't F--- something else up!

Good luck!

My brother took his 2007 F150 to walmart and asked for 5w20 M1. Later on I checked the reciept and pointed out they used 10w30 Castrol High Mileage and it was a quart low

Needless to say, I do oil changes for his vehicles now.

I told him that I'm going to charge him 8,000 dollars to take it off and its going to take about six moths to fix.

I make the assumption that the oil is at proper operating temperature when you have tried to remove the drain plug. Further heating of the drain plug would not be needed.
Using a can of instant freeze (from most well stocked electronic supply houses), give the drain plug a couple of good sprays. This will shrink the drain plug. Then give it a try.
If that fails, dust off the impact wrench and just use brute force. Using an impact wrench is probably what they used in the first place.
If all else fails, just remove the oil filler cap, and turn the car over on its roof to drain the oil.
