Ive shown this to a few of my friends and they are always blown away when I show them the idea. Just wanna see if the oil fans have ever caught on to this. Most new cars have 2 trip odometers, never understood what the point of that really was. Anyway so I use my second trip to give me an exact mile count on my oil. I love watching the miles grow and I get excited to watch each thousand roll over. Its a lot better than doing math.

That's a good idea, but doing the math is not difficult.

Still, kudos to you for thinking of it

I am going to go out on a limb and say that most on this site and almost any other auto forum that have 2 trips do this. Trip A is for current mileage on that tank of gas and trip B is total miles on that oil.

This does change thou if you are keeping track for work or etc... but then you just let A go and go and go and do the mpg math in your head.

That's what I do, though my recorded OCI is still based on the ODO.

I save mile OCI mileage it to a notepad on my phone and check it vs the current mileage every so often to make sure I haven't gone crazy.

I also like to have a nice little oil change sticker in my window. So I know exact mileage that I want to change it at and it makes DIY oil changes look professional! Youd never know I do it myself.

I have a dry erase board in my garage, I write the date, mileage, oil type for each vehicle on it.( I also keep each filter # so i know what to buy for each car).

If this is on the iphone you have to tell me what it is!!!

I have the mileage of the change and the next change on a sticker on my windshield (and that of all customers). Easy to see. Every Monday an employee checks when he checks tires, electrical, oil levels etc.

I use my trip odometers for trips, like A to measure between stops, customers, etc.; B for the entire trip.

When I change my oil I record the miles and hours on truck. My truck does have a second trip meter. Most vehicles don't have an hour meter unless it's diesel or a fleet vehicle.

I use the trip odometers on two of our cars that way, 97 and 07 Camrys but believe it or not, the 08 Volvo trip odomoters only go to 1k.

I change every 10K. The Focus at the 80K mark and the Fusion at the 75K mark. Then every 10K after that.

I've never though of putting a dry erase board in a garage, but now that you've mentioned it I really like the idea. Too bad I don't have a garage

I work at AAP and have a stash of about 200 oil change stickers that we give away for free. So I just take two glances and BOOM! Oil change time.....

I do this as well. Most auto parts stores (e.g. AAP) have branded static cling OC stickers free for the taking right where they sell oil. I take an arm's length of them every time I go (well OK, not quite that much), and record lots of maintenance tasks on them. My windshield has a row of them! A side benefit of this (real or imagined) is that when I do bring the car to the dealership, they can tell I'm on top of things.

This is a great idea! I'll have to mount it at a kid-proof level however...
