Oil Change Before Trip?

OLM on hondas is a very great system to follow. i'd definitely stick with it regardless.

If I knew how it worked I might share your confidence. I know it indicates 50% oil life until the actual calculated value drops below 40%. Even if I assume my MM was just about to drop to 40%, how do I extrapolate what mileage I would have at 0%? Me...I would change. You are at 4400mi already and you probably still have some break-in particles in the oil since you only have 13k on the ODO. All that into consideration and the heat and peace of mind having a new oil/filter combo...oh yes, I would change my oil.

MM is not linear, it's based on an algorithm. Around here (Bitog) the 'average' seems to be right around 7500 miles before getting into the 0-15% range. IMO, not important to have an exact point of where 0% miles will be.
I've run the last two OCI's using using the MM to ~10% on a 3.0L Accord. One went the year max at ~7100 mi. and one ~6900 mi. in 9 months.
But MM isn't the issue here, it appears to be getting to a 5k OCI. And if Honda/Acura were concerned with "break in particles", they wouldn't recommend MM limit for FF.
Before you can get comfortable with following MM you would have to be comfortable with standard 5k OCI's. Obviously not there yet.
Baby steps.

As far as trips go 700 miles is a short trip. I think art was going to change it yesterday, trip or not!

what about wear metals that are in the oil? contaminates will cause more wear in my opinion than any detergent.
i have about 40 gallons of oil with 3k on it. your welcome to it if you like

Maybe you can put that 3K oil in a green bottle and call it "XxTreme NextGen"
Run it and change when MM gets to 5%

Yeah suits me... I changed my '07 Grand Marquis Fri at 4100mi, just before a 400mi round trip this weekend... I usually go to 4.5-5K, but since it was last changed in Nov '10, decided I'd go with fresh oil for this trip...

Get your money out of that Pennzoil Conventional before you dump it! That oil has plenty of life left at your current mileage and your OLM even says you do. I wouldnt want a good chunk taken out of my fresh oils OCI that quick over 1 trip. Pennzoil Conventional is easily better than a 5k oil and the used oil analysis have shown that to be true. Sleep easy.

how bout because its my money and i want to. i happen to like doing it. and for $15 its not alot spent. my f150 would go 7k with dino with its 7qt sump and long highway drives but i change it at 3k. i look forward to doing it, i kind of enjoy spending time under the hood.

Usually I dont change before trip, I change couple day early before trip day, so I make sure it not leak, oil pan drain plug not leak or oil filter not leak.
but if you have no time to plan ahead, then just double check oil pan drain plug and oil filter tight.

I usually put off my oil changes one trip at a time until i am way overdue. I typicaly reach my breaking point around 8K or just before/after a track day in the G, it does all the highway miles and lots of track miles. Almost no city driving. If it gets started, it runs for hours. I have never had a bad UOA though. My round trip to my office is 200 miles at 82mph. More often my trips are 500-600 miles each way.
The FX and BMW have miles put on slowly enough that I never go over.
