2010 Acura MDX w/12750 miles. Use Pennzoil conventional. Have 4400 miles on current oil and will be taking a 700 mile trip. Should I change oil before trip? Maintenance Minder says I have 50% oil life left. Thanks. I have been changing at 4-5k miles regardless of what MM says.

Trip is good for the oil and typ easy on it - unless your towing a 5000LB trailer and have 5 screaming kids in the car. Id change when I got back.

+1, you will still be close to your OCI and going over that little won't hurt nothing but your maticulous driving records. Hurts my heart too.

Is that Pennzoil conventional SN? Pennzoil conventional SN is not "Pennzoil conventional" anymore. If thats 5w-20 I'd try MC-SS SN in that - its a spectacular oil and a bargain to boot.

How long (time) has it been since last oil change? If it's less than Acura's max OCI(Honda/1 year), I wouldn't change it with 50% MM.

As said, trip miles are the easiest miles on the oil. Change it when you return, if you must.

i would change it and not count the long highway miles on the next oci.
like change it now and when you get back start counting ya know

What makes you sleep better at night. That is the question.

Me...I would change. You are at 4400mi already and you probably still have some break-in particles in the oil since you only have 13k on the ODO. All that into consideration and the heat and peace of mind having a new oil/filter combo...oh yes, I would change my oil.

X2 change it and u dont have worried when taking the trip.

Thanks for the quick responses. Surprised that folks are evenly split. I am leaving tomorrow morning at 9am so I have plenty of time before the baseball game starts to make a run to Walmart which is only 5 mins away.

I have been changing oil in my cars for 46 years and I have never gone more than 3k OCI. It has been killing me to wait 5k but so many people have told me that this engine is easy on oil and 5k doesn't make the oil break a sweat. I'll let you know what I decide. I need a 12 step program to help me recover from 3k OCI's!

I vote for changing the oil. Your nice car deserves a few dollars worth of cheap insurance.

Sure you don't "HAVE" to change it, but if it's been killing you to wait for 5k and you'll sleep better if you change it, just change it and get it over with.

I've already made my recommendation, but since you said you never went more 3k in the past, 5k is the (now not so) new 3k, today's oils easily do that. No need to waste good oil.

Oh and in conclusion, change it when you return.

Isn't the first step to recognize you have a problem? Changing it when you return, get's you closer to recovery from the 3k syndrone.

No worries.
