Oil additives

So you feel the same way? My thinking has probably come around to within 1% of how Johnny seems to feel.

When it comes to an older car or truck that somebody is trying to just get a few more miles out of, that can be a different story. If there is sludge in the engine maybe go ahead and use some MMO.

My car has 80,500 miles on it. It still runs good and I would like to get 150,000 miles out of it if I can. I have mostly used conventional motor oils with reasonanlr OCIs. These new synthetic oils that promise to clean an engine might well be just what I need.

So I have read lots of stuff on the internet and I do not believe it all. Also if you talk about something you read you should tell others where you found it so they can read it also.

Most of the vast majority of drivers on the planet need nothing more than the conventional oil that the OEM specified.

The use of a top tier oil should be based on absolute need in terms of severity or durability. That's it. Those both end up being the same thing in a manner of speaking.

If they can't pay for themselves, you don't buy them.

Some of the synthetic motor oils are available at such low prices today (especially in 5 qt containers) that the price difference between the synthetic and the conventional is not worth worrying about.

Interesting, since now I am quite believer on oil additive. The steady diet of Mobil 1 alone does not give enough wear/friction reduction in my car. I am trying the organic Moly right now, and so far it give better mileage and restored power like new car.

I am a firm believer that todays oils are very good, however they are blended to a price point. As in every business profit is a major concern. In a bad ecomony more so than ever! While good synthetic oils might do some cleaning there are certain applications where they might just not be up to par, or in cases where an engine was neglected they might not be able to clean without the help of an additive.

I also believe Moly is one of the most expensive additives in an oil, and the oil companies are looking for cheaper alternatives, these alternatives probably aren't as good. The oil compaines want us to believe we are buying the very best, but quite honestly we will never really know for sure. Most people don't keep their cars long enough for this to make a difference so it doesn't matter. Others like myself who tend to hold onto their cars for a very long time might notice a difference.

I still maintain there are a handful of additives that actually work, and can be beneficial to some people. JMO

i only do the mmo and lucas ucl in gas now. No more oil additives, its only mental side effect and it cost $$$$$$$$$$

I would use MMO a 1000 miles before an oil change if I thought an engine was really dirty. A person should be careful buying a used car but if you do wind up with one with a dirty engine MMO might work out. What is the harm in trying MMO in very high mileage cars and trucks?

I still use regane a couple of times a year in the gas. MMO could probably also be used in the gas from time to time.

I use Stabil only if I need it in the lawnmower gas. Otherwise nothing unless I need it, although Lubro-Moly sounds kind of interesting.

MMO at the end of every other oil change works great in a higher mileage engine.
