Weaker oil & gas additives?

I have read that some additives, like Valvoline oil treatment, has reduced some of the additive components. Do we have any recent VOAs of oil treatments that are still very good. Same for gas additives? Not sure if Technion concentrate or Red-line is still top notch. In God I trust-all others bring VOAs. Ed

Valvoline doesn't even make any oil treatments anymore, beside possible a 'stop leak' product. no more VSOT or MLEP.

What are you looking for, Eddie? A zinc/phos rich additive? I think that there's some ZDDP+ (or plus) outfit that appears to specialize in just that product. Google it.

Be careful with moly adds. Too much is not good. Not in terms of real harm, per se~, but I had a moly slug of excess drop out in my filter ..and I assume in my pan from some VSOT treatement. I'm still getting 200ppm readings with no moly in the oil for quite a few OCI's.

Amsoil PI is still unchanged in potency. I can't speak for the others. I still think Gumout Regane (clear yellow bottle -COMPLETE) is a good product for over the counter availability.

Hi Gary: In the past, I used Techron concentrate for the fuel add every 10K miles and used 1 OZ per quart of the Valvoline (old Silver bottle) engine oil additive. I still use the Techron C. I just wanted to beef-up the oil alittle but, since I switched to Pennzoil Platinum, I haven't used any oil additive and maybe don't need it for my CX7 turbo engine.

Whatever you do, just resist temptation to over do it. Molakule warned everyone about VSOT, saying to use it sparingly. Like most I had to learn it the hard way. It didn't do any harm from my view, but sure produced some side effects that I didn't expect or want.

I never used the Techron Concentrate. I got nothing out of regular Techron in years past. I never felt anything from Seafoam, but it did reduce knocking in warmer weather. Regane was the first product to produce butt dyno results that you could feel with distinction. Naturally, the computer reindexed the fuel trims to compensate, so it was short lived. Amsoil PI is my product of choice now. All the other brands, including Techron, removed % from their MSDS. I don't know why. Many don't even list PEA as an ingredient.

I have some at home I was going to add to the new 2001 Saturn with 109k.

Gary. I used VSOT at one oz per quart of oil as Molakule suggested. I will give Regane a try next time. Interesting to note that I have never observed any difference in running performance after using a gas additve. I suspect that it may be due to staying away from off brand gas.

Apparently there's a limit to what can sensibly be suspended and plated out. The rest sinks out. Like I said, I've been leaching moly 15-20k after the fact to levels higher than most oils that have moly in them.

Add 1oz/per quart max.

I can't recall, but I think this is at over 20k with no adds of anything. This is probably the second with the 0w-10.

It may be due to your drive duration. It just takes longer if you don't do shorter trips. If you do a treatment often enough, you may never feel anything different. It's always a YMMV situation.
