Odyssey is around $303, Napa AGM Legend is $252 and ACDelco Professional/Gold is $180 for Group size 47. I've used Odyssey in the past and they've been working well. Is there any difference in longevity? Any other brands to consider?

Check out Walmart. You're buying the warranty, not the battery. My agm 24 F was about $175 with 4 year warranty.

AC Delco AGM is just a Clarios AGM. They used to all be made in Germany by Varta, but now I hear they are like the Interstate AGMs supplied by Clarios and can be from any number of countries. I have a German Varta made AC Delco AGM and going strong at 6.5 years old.

Some people buy for the warranty. But in my experience Odyssey and East Penn batteries last far longer than the warranty.

NAPA AGM Legend is made by East Penn, an excellent manufacturer.

The Odyssey in my Outback is three years old, daughter’s five years old. This disel van battery is five years old. Previous owner used wrong size.

If it were me, I would go with the Odyssey. I've never tried one, but have often considered it, but forget when the time comes for a new battery.

If you get the Odyssey, use the 20% off code from Napa: PROSHOP. Should make it cheaper. Also, read the literature about the Napa AGM batteries. The website says 36 month free replacement but their fine print says prorated after 18 months.

Not sure why one would need such a battery for a Subaru. Seems like requirements creep…

Is the alternator set up for agm charging profile? If not, it will still work, I’ve done it, but it’s not ideal.

What is the Subaru cranking requirements? I doubt particularly high…

I would put back whatever the car came with, due to charging profile also. Had that problem in my Honda. Came with an FLA battery, and wasn't charging the AGM correctly when I replaced the OE FLA. The AGM failed in a few years, and I went back with an FLA from Walmart. The FLA has been going strong for 5 years now. Stupid Honda alternator only charged the battery when their was a load. No load, it only put out 12.1 volts. Throw on headlights, kicked up to 14.3 volts

Absolutely avoid buying Odyssey from NAPA you will 99% get a new old stock. Been there done that. Got a almost 5 year old battery. Always get yours from https://wcbatteries.com/collections/odyssey. One of the largest if not largest retailer of Odyssey in the USA. Almost always 6months old when delivered.

I got 2 from them. One was older, but I emailed Odyssey and they replaced it. The second one was new.

I have heard of this before. Odyssey is good about providing free replacements if you get old stock, when you buy one of their batteries from one of their retailers.

I was tempted to put an Odyssey in my S4 but since I don't drive it and needed a battery kinda asap, I went with an Everstart. I was also tempted to put an Everstart AGM in my Impreza but for just about $90 more after discount, I went with Odyssey. I do try to hook up all my cars to a charger once a week if possible. We'll see if that makes a difference.

I just bought a WM Platinum Group 35 battery for my Generac. East Penn made as I'm in NYS so the better WM batteries come from them.
East Penn built batteries is all I buy now, most bang for the buck.
I've had an Odyssey in the past, no issues in -20f starts in my old Tahoe. Traded that truck in. I have a Yuasa EP made OEM AGM battery in my '13 Snowmobile still testing good and cranking its 1.2L motor just fine. And that battery lives on its side, narrow side down, no leaks either. Always on a BM maintainer.

Our place in NH get down to -20’s F and the UP is very likely colder. International Falls is cold as hell.

We buy Odyssey AGM’s for most of our vehicles, including 05 and 08 Outback 3.0R. We use OEM Toyota for a Gen 3 Prius, it is a small AGM in the trunk.

Older Subarus don’t seem to have a problem charging them. They are plain ole “dumb” systems.

At 72 (age) -20's F seems too darn cold. Probably need block heaters in the diesel trucks.
