Odyssey H6 battery

I'd talk politely with the NAPA people. They won't have to take it back but might let you try your tester on another unit on the shelf and let you exchange. Or you could be a fink and say it doesn't fit then buy one at another franchise.

A properly manufactured AGM will hold the soh and soc for 6 + months easily. My Odyssey AGM held it 12months after being fully charged without the connected maintenance 13.7V float voltage applied during storage. I did confirm this info and my observations with Odyssey customer service.
Odyssey Customer Service told me the same thing.

They didn't have any other H6 batteries there. I spoke with someone at napaonline customer service and they are sending me a new one.

Good on them, thats very nice of them to work with you.

I’ve moved all of my battery buying to Batteries Plus over the past few years. They have treated me quite well and the Deka/East Penn products have been generally a step up from Johnson (JCI) and Exide/Interstate offerings.

I thought about Batteries Plus but the closest one to be is ~45 minutes away. The 2 closer ones closed years ago. It's kinda far to go for warranty stuff.

This experience makes me curious as to what their internal quality audits say.

I didn't, and don't have ultra high expectations for the $120 Chinese AGM I just bought. But only three weeks on the meter at this point.

However, if I paid the $335 the local NAPA wants (or even $268, if a current discount code applies, which is not a given with NAPA's wonky site) for the 'murican made Odyssey, I'd have higher expectations--to not receive a bad one to start, and expect it to last a decade.

But, I guess there can be bad apples in every load.

@ Carmudgeon Do u have a battery conductance meter to determine the Weize’s soh and soc? For a 24F: Weize, Walmart AGM, Odyssey data sheets’s weight respectively are 39#, 45#, 52#.

A lot more Pb.

I missed that. He bought an Odyssey.

Yeah man, I’d expect it to be perfect.

I’ve purchased a couple of the X2Power batteries from Batteries Plus, which are from the same manufacturer. It’s such a rare buy that they are usually order-only so they don’t sit on the shelves. I think they keep 2-3 in stock only, 1 of each most popular size, if that. I would not want a six month old premium battery.

Years back I bought an AGM from Advance Auto. It was 9 months old when I bought it, as it was the only one they had *in town* (we have like 4 stores here) for the size needed. I balked at the date but knew what the inventories were. It failed 6 months before the 3 year warranty was up. They were good to warranty exchange it, and the replacement … I lost track of how many years it had on it, but 6-7 at this point? (We traded in that car last year).

I saw Napa had an odyssey for a pretty decent price on an H7, $250 is I think. Glad I didn’t bite. I think this is 2 Napa/odyssey threads I’ve read today.

Yes, indeedy.

But I don't have much faith in the SoH figures those cheap testers produce.

They had limitations, and still do.

I took a lap of the local NAPAs to see what they had, and while a couple had stock that was reasonably fresh, one store that looked and felt like it hadn't changed since the 70s had stock that reflected its appearance.

Batteries+ and Walmart were at least 30-40 minutes away, so not as convenient. The number of B+ stores in this area has also shrunk.

A $300+ battery is a boutique purchase, so no surprise that the chances that it is old stock is higher. Costco is the place I've noticed that consistently has the highest inventory turnover.

New battery arrived and was packaged much better than the last one. This one tested 12.8 volts and 859 CCA.
Congrats. Put it in on a Batteryminder and desulphate away. What is the date code?

Armed with a battery conductance battery meter, BITOG knowledge and personal advocacy, u refused to accept and become of the 99% mass consumers. I am glad u held odyssey’s feet to the fire and in turn they will make a better product for all of us. Thank u. Great job.

My new BatteryMINDer 128CEC2 should be here this weekend and will put it on the charger. Date code appears to be Oct 2024.

Very nice. I have the BatteryMinde 2012 the el cheapo one. After a week, keep us posted on the change of soh, soc and resistance. Since it is a fresh production there is not much cleaning up of sulphates to do. I think measurements after 1day the differences for 3 and 7 days would not be significant.

I try to push for the lowest milliohms and maximum CCA.

Although I have an Odyssey battery in my 14 Venza, my 21 RX350 personal Odyssey started in May 2024. It was an abused 3 1/2 yrs OE battery. Started on a PulseTech XC400 and then settled on a BatteryMinder 2012 for the OE battery. Float Voltage is 13.4 V at 77F.

Yes, will post an update. I even ordered a Ancel BA101 to use in lieu of my Solar BA9.
