As one YTer is fond of saying, "Let's find out!"
A new segment of inexpensive Chinese AGM batteries has entered the market.
In these times when retail aftermarket batteries flirt with $200 price points, and AGM versions tread well into the $200 range, outside of Walmart and the warehouse clubs, the notion of a sub-$150 AGM battery is no doubt attractive.
However, that can be rendered moot if the product proves to be false economy, and fails to serve for a reasonably expected time period, and isn't supported by the retailer.
This segment is relatively new, so there is little to no long-term data on how durable they will prove to be, and that can only be discovered though experience.
So begins a trial, and gamble of sorts, to see if these are genuinely worthwhile alternatives.
The subject, an H6/48/91 AGM battery, rated at 70Ah capacity, and 760 CCA (par for the course):
(MSRP is listed at $170, but they typically sell for $120-$130 direct from the distributor, free shipping, no core charge or sales tax. They are also available through Amazon, who will charge tax.)
Out of the (well-packaged) box, the battery was fully charged, at 12.8v.
A quick evaluation with a conductance tester shows that this example meets the stated specs:
Out with the old, in with the new:
Will such a low cost Chinese AGM batteries turn out to be "Weize" choice?
We shall see. I'll update this accordingly, as needed, but hope not to have that need.
Those who have taken similar bets are welcome to share their experiences.
