OCI due...between GTX or Pennzoil...

..I have decided that these two are my favorites. I've mostl used Pennzoil (YB), but for a company who is only a blender, I really like BP Castrol (GTX).

I was curious to know if most people currently favor the Pennzoil? I do, and one particular reason is that it seems it may be a grp II+, but I'm wondering if Grp II or II+ really makes no difference in the conventional realm? And I thought about trying Castro GTX 5W 30. It's been a long time since Ive used it.

With Castrol GTX, you mind as well put sand and water in your sump. With GTX you are guaranteed to have an engine failure within 200 miles.

Everyone I know who has INSANELY high miles on their cars have run nothing but Pennzoil conventional (yellow bottle). That`s what I have for my next oci (my huge oil stash of 5 quarts :^)

pennzoil, but gtx is good too..my old cavalier has pennzoil syn in and has not burned a drop in 5k miles..my brothers malibu oil level would not drop at all even after 8k on pennzoil regular

Seriously though, both of them are great oils and if you ran one or other for the entire life of your vehicle I bet the end result would be the same. It's not like one of the oils will only get you 150k of engine life while the other gives you 250k for example.

Funny thing is, I changed the oil on my parent's 99 Jetta today. I didn't even plan on it but I found out it had just over 7k miles on the OCI.

Anyway, the oil was black as tar. I changed the oil and filter. I used Castrol GTX 10w40 and I want to tell them they have the greatest 5qt jugs ever. The jug alone makes me want to buy it over Pennzoil because Pennzoil's new jug is terrible.

With the GTX, the oil pours so easily with absolutely no drips.

I used one of those GTX 5.5 quart jugs today and it was absolutely awful. It felt like I was pouring from one of those wicked Prestone jugs.

GTX seems to be a higher end oil compared to Pennzoil. Only more expensive shops use it for some reason.

Anyway, I installed GTX 5w-30 today with a Fram oil filter and the engine is completely silent after I changed the oil. All of the ticking and diesel-like noises are gone. I've never had an oil change cure NVH problems until now.

Pennzoil Platinum. $20 for 5 qt jug at Wally World. I like the new jug better then thte old jug. I just changed my oil this morning and put in PP. I have never been a fan of Castrol for some reason. Go with PP or the regular yellow jug and you should be fine.

Customers just seem to regard it as a higher-end oil. They are willing to pay more for it for some reason. That's all that I've noticed. I've seen people specifically request GTX over Pennzoil and are willing to pay more for it.
