Obesity

Everyone is different.
I find that I can stay with a mostly OMAD plan with wine with dinner and ice cream for dessert and maintain a BMI compliant weight with no problem.
Not everyone can do this.

If the worlds wheat fields all died tomorrow, much of mankind would starve to death before it figured out how to and turned those fields into carrot farms or green bean farms and accepted that yep, that's my diet now. Flour is cheap, easy to process and ship, and you can make a cup of flour (with a little help from sugar and fat and salt) into enough food to fatten up 3 people a day. A person could eat 5lbs of green beans and carrots per week and supplement them with a little protein and lose weight. A couple of tomatoes here and there, a banana (still under 50 cents a lb) and bit of dairy and a person could not just survive, but flourish on 6 or 8 different foods. Most of us just don't want to. Me at the top of the NO I DON'T WANT TO list.

Those green beans and carrots aren't as easy to grow, process and ship, aren't as versatile, and don't 'stretch' nearly as far with the addition of a little sugar, salt, and fat. Man like bread. Man like pasta. Man eat primarily bread and pasta, man die - there just aren't enough nutrients in flour to sustain health.

On top of all that bread and pasta, we add butter........ or icing...... or a bunch of very fatty red meat (or deep fried poultry) and a slab of cheese and a shot of mayo. And we eat it by the lb. I do....

I actually prefer OMAD, and keto OMAD at that. It worked for me but man is it expensive (the way I did it) and I still highly doubt that guzzling butter and avocado slathered ribeyes outweighed the benefits. OMAD isn't bad when you get used to it. Call me crazy, but after about 2-3 weeks I just got to the point where I didn't really have feelings of hunger, I just knew it was time to eat. My problem is willpower. You scarf down one doughnut that you just HAD to have because the smell was intoxicating, and that was it. That induced instant feelings of hunger. One 'treat' a week became one every few days, then it became every day, then it became a doughnut AND some chips a few hours later.....

The Swiss really are going to inherit the earth lol. God help 'em when they hit the breadbaskets of what they inherit.

My pizza and fries order is ready. See ya'll on the other side ;)

Poor heath/eating habits are a choice. It's simple and cheap to eat healthy in the USA more than anyplace in the world, whether one choses too is another story.

As far as this whole, "fat vs. ugly argument", this is it in a nutshell. Obesity, or being fat is a choice. Being ugly isn't. People who constantly crave food have to eat to gain weight, period. Calories have to be put into the mouth, chewed, and swallowed.

Do enough of it with all the wrong foods, and you'll be fat in no time. Ugly is something different. Especially with women. Some are just naturally beautiful. Regardless of their hair length, makeup, or choice in clothes.

Others are not attractive, regardless of how they dress or wear their makeup. Age is another beauty robber. Some women age very well, as do some men. Others, not so much.

Look at both Kelly McGillis and Val Kilmer from the original Top Gun. Both were beautiful and handsome back in the 80's when that movie hit the screen. Girls went nuts over that volleyball scene. The guys couldn't get enough of Kelly in that tight black pencil skirt.

Fast forward to today. Kelly admitted she didn't get invited back for "Top Gun Maverick", because in her own words, "I got old and fat". So Jennifer Connelly was brought in as Cruise's love interest. She is older, but still looks great.

Kilmer was brought in as a personal favor, because Tom Cruise didn't want to make the movie without him appearing in at least one scene. He felt it was vital to support the storyline, as the high ranking "guardian angel" who protected Maverick throughout his long career.

But with most people eating too much is something that is controllable. With difficulty perhaps, but controllable nonetheless. Beauty is a lottery ticket. And for many people it's a losing one.

Agree, the majority;
Sad part is the others have to pay higher health insurance costs because of it. There are no options and current law I do not think allows health insurance for those that weigh their proper BMI weight, have Lipid panels showing correct cholesterol in their blood, ect. to pay lower rates. Meaning a class of insured people who take care of themselves.

Americans complain about health care costs. Well, then
1. Dont eat fast food, dont eat fried food, dont eat any snack food, do not eat anything more than two meals a day, no snacks, dont drink soda of any kind, dont drink fruit juices of all kinds, in fact dont drink anything except water, coffee or tea. Dont eat any bread unless it's whole wheat.

2. Do cook your own meals, lean meats only, fish at least 3 times a week, vegetables, and very little starches (potatoes)
If you go out to dinner, an example that I do is BoneFish Grill, only grilled fish and if a steak, 6 oz with shrimp.
Even Texas Road House you can have a decent meal and skip those delicious rolls.)
Do eat a yogurt or frozen yogurt for a desert at night if you must and two pieces of fruit, even 3 pieces (to start) a day. Apples, Oranges, Bananas, anything fruit.
3. If you weight more then the BMI scale says you should then you are doing something wrong. Because two meals a day with no snacks should maintain your weight. I actually only eat dinner and very light lunch. Banana, a few nuts, water, if I go to the gym I reward myself with a small box drink Orgien, Clean Protein.

We are full of excuses in the USA, drives me NuTs at the long insane lines outside of ChickFil la EVERY SINGLE DAY of the week, its so bad now they have people in the parking lot directing traffic and still the traffic backs up onto the main road and its a HUGE parking lot! *LOL* Gosh all for garbage food.
Other fast food places, much the same, every evening cars are lined up like ducks at the drive up windows, it IS INSANE. None of this so called food has any value and people pay through the nose for the junk and we, even the healthy eaters pay the health care costs for it.
Never mind the death and destruction of the families themselves.
There are no healthy foods in fast food places. Maybe better said 95% of the people who buy food there are eating unhealthy.
We really do have a problem in this country, all we do is complain but so many unwilling to do what they know is right.

I think the only way society can change this is financially. Health insurance cost should carry an additional premium for each percentage over your maximum weight as determined by the BMI.

The use of BMI is a joke at best. They are basically taking into account age, height, weight, etc. Definitely not taking into account muscle density as that clearly varies. Healthcare in general is becoming quite the joke these days anyway.

They make the best ice cream..IMO
Definitely agree as 95% of all their offerings are top notch for my taste. They have had a few lousy flavor profiles that didn't suit me, but I always go for Blue Bell over ANY brand and the cost for what you get is quite reasonable too.

Not a good subject since most will be over eating on Thanksgiving and falling asleep watching football. Most likely me too.

I think calling it a joke is sidestepping the issue. You're bringing up a small portion of the population to explain the MASSIVE rise of overweight people in the USA. Not only that but BMI was the same measurement back then too and you can bet Americans muscle mass has declined in our modern world.
Let's not forget about the garbage ultra processed food we now consume vs wholesome unprocessed products of the 50s, 60s and into the 70s.

So let's go by pounds. Keep in mind it has become worse even since 2002 when this was done.

Here is a CDC statement, problem it is older done in 2002 and things have got worse since.

I mean, it's all here, to deny it is fruitless. It is a pubic health crisis in the USA. Most likely way worse than drug addition or any other human condition is my feeling. Never mind the crazy increase in the cost of treating everyone. Yet we complain about the cost of health care. Go figure. Another example is my feeling of "its not my fault"

Eat less, eat better and move around more. Tried and true. Doesn't work for everyone as there are other components to weight gain/loss but reducing caloric intake and using more energy is a proven method lol.

@alarmguy good point, it's a very big health issue that has compounding impacts on overall health.
