I am looking for a cost effective scan tool that can read codes, including ABS, and display snapshot data at a minimum. I mostly just need comprehensive big three coverage and may not need OBD-I compatibility.

I want something nicer than the $100 read the codes and nothing else units, but don't want to get near the price of something like a Snap-On Ethos (I have seen some new in box on eBay for $900, and they are nice but I can't justify it). Something between $250 and $350 is the price range I am looking at.

I like the look of the Actron CP9190 Elite AutoScanner Pro, but it does not appear to me that it includes the ability to read ABS codes.

Recommendations?

I don't know if many of the less expensive tools will read ABS codes. If you find one, let me know.

I can get one that just reads ABS codes for $169.99 (Actron BrakeScan CP9449), but it's not a full OBD-II tool.

The Equus Innova 3150 does both, but I have not seen a price on it. It was just announced a week ago, and I have used a 3110 which is a similar unit.

I use the Scan Gauge tool which runs about $170. It's for measuring MPG and other interesting stuff, but it also works as a OBD2 scanner.

The Equus Innova 3100 is a very rugged device, I'm highly impressed with it; if the 3150 is anything like that, it would be my first choice.

I am in need of a scan tool, may have to wait for one of these.

I have a Innovia 3120. I love it. Works every time and I dont have to go to the knuckle head checkers/Autozone to use theirs! I have yet to utilize it in diagnosing ABS and hope I never have to, atleast on my vehicles

Anybody know of a cheap scan tool that will read codes on a '94/'95 GM "obd 1.5" system?

I'm tired of having to borrow a snap-on scan tool.

^^^^ Nope, still need it for the big jobs and programming etc. But you can get pretty good deals on eBay at times.

I have a USB OBDII scan tool, which can use any number of pieces of software to do the scan... Works great.

I have an Innova 3130. Love it. Last week my Service Engine Soon/CEL came on while towing the dirtbikes up the mountains with my 2000 Silverado. I had detected a misfire several seconds before the light came on. When I got home I plugged in the Innova and in plain english (plus the code number) it said misfire detected in cylinder #2. Then it provided a snapshot of the engine perameters at the time the misfire was detected. RPM, engine load, water temp, oil pressure (I think), voltage, fuel trim, etc. Way cool.

Check out Harrison R&D at http://www.obdscan.net

I've had one of their Universal scan tools for a few years now and have used it on Ford, GM, Dodge, Isuzu, and Toyota. They have newer tools out that do much more than the one I have. The unit I have plugs into my laptop.

CAUTION: I very highly give caution about using or attempting to buy a scanner called Pro-scan. If you want to get other people's opinions besides myself, just go to their website's own forum. It's supposed to be there for the tech help or other users to share information and help troubleshoot things. Instead you'll see that more than half of the topics are all unanswered and all are complaints that they are not receiving their products that they already paid for.

In my case I paid and then got ignored for 6 months. AFter complaining to numerous agencies and the police department I still made no progress at all. Then one day out of the blue my "ProSCAM" showed up.

It works horribly, nothing but errors with the software. After only a few months of having it my truck actually broke and I need to use it to troubleshoot things and get me going again. It won't work and I'm stuck with a broken truck and NO customer support from them after a week of filing support tickets with them.
