Not much talk about WIX filters

Probably because they never get -

- Torn pleats
- Wavy pleats
- Wide gaps between pleats
- End caps falling off
- Holes thru the media

They do their job and they hold up well, yet you guys keep talking about FRAM and Purolator.

Based on what I've read here, I wouldn't use their synthetic filter (aka Napa Platinum) due to its low efficiency.

I don't mean to bash any WIX as I've read nothing but good and haven't used them myself. There are just so many fickle posters. After seeing all the Puralator postings I purchased a really nice filter cutter. I have lots of P1's and about 6 white can P's. So I've been cutting them and so far all is good. Maybe I don't have any of the effected "batch" but mine have looked good so far.

If anyone can post a link to how to post pics I'll post up the last P1 7500 OCI.

Heck, maybe there has yet to be a defective WIX.....but I doubt it.

I use WIX XP oil filters on everything including my lawn tractor. I also choose WIX air and fuel filters for everything.

I have bought mostly Wix filters the last year. You are right defects on any Wix made filter are rare to non-existent here. Wix's strong point is construction, their actual filtering efficiency lags a bit. With Honda/Toyota's running hundreds of thousands of miles on rock catcher OEM filters I'm not sure it matters that much though.

For those disappointed with Puro's latest issues and an aversion to Fram, Wix seems the perfect alternative.

Wix XP can't hold a candle to the Fram Ultra. The Wix is only a single layer mediation compared to FU dual layer media and the Wix efficiency of awful. Wix is also not very forthcoming with these figures and finding them is nearly impossible.

Also it's not like no Wix has ever failed.

Now if you want to go there there's more than one Fram fail youtube that could be posted too. Won't bother as it's pointless.

So without turning this into a urination contest and not the point of the thread, Wix/Napa Gold makes a solid filter and is generally well respected here.

I have used many types on my versa and actually have a complaint about them. Maybe just the model I used but I cut apart every oil filter I use and the wix one had an element half the size as all the other brands I've tried in the car. Well built and no apparent problems but was kinda disappointed the element was so small.

Pure BITOG searching for perfection that don't exist running off at the mouth. WIX filters are well-built and do their job well. They don't get talked about because WIX filters don't give BITOG paranoia members anything to talk about. Can't hold a candle...ppfffttt.

I remember seeing a few Wix's fail causing damage, but nothing major other then the odd dysfunctional ADBV. So that's it then, they're great! Let's all use Wix filters!...........

We said the same thing about Purii filters........

The usual suspect in such a case is that Wix is putting a thread end bypass in such a part number. That will take up space, which is certainly more noticeable in a smaller filter.

Thats one of the reasons why cartridge filters beat canister ones IMHO. Can inspect cartridges for quality/intact construction before-hand. You don't have to cut them open to find out (AFTER usage) if it is intact, AND you don't waste metal. Engine makers should all convert to cartridge-only setups. It wouldn't be hard, even with current canister designs, as you can put a permanent housing where the canister now goes, just insert cartridge. A greener solution because some of us don't want to waste the earth's resources.

One example: Wix's NAPA Gold 7327 cartridge (BMW '07 530 N52 six) has obviously more media area than the already-decent Mann-Hummel HU-816x, and Wix puts some glass fibers in there as a bonus.

The other day I ordered a WalMart.com twin-pack of Mobil1 Ext Perf oil filter cartridges for my '11 Camaro 3.6L six and immediately noticed the pleats were very wide&uneven all around, like they didn't use enough media and had to stretch it (bad batch). I returned them. Had they been inside a can, I would have never known.

Except.......The project to clean the can is extra labor that would be skipped at the jiffylube, and is an opportunity for the introduction of plenty of contamination. Everything is a compromise, and canister filters are a much better deal for most folks.
