Norton won't let email work through an ssl

My hard drive crashed a few weeks ago, so I got a new one, reloaded everything through my recovery discs, and my Outlook Express and Norton AV updated. Now I can't send emails because the Norton won't let them through because of an ssl connection.I did the troubleshooting and it said to shut off the incoming and outgoing email scans. I did that and it still won't work.
Any ideas?

Uninstall Norton.

Yes. There are good & free A/V options on the market, Avast for example. Fighting with Norton is just not worth it.

I was going to say... Who still uses Norton? Then I read oilboy123's post above...

Norton is nothing but a headache and a resource hog.

Get ESET Smart Security. Extremely fast and it catches everything.

Totally disagree. I work in IT amd have, bar a year, for 30 years. Norton Internet Security 2009 is the leanest, meanest protection suite on the market and after moving from Panda it's a revelation. Not free though. It's made Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware , SUPERAntiSpyware, Spyware Doctor, and the best
a-squared unnecessary. I still update and them daily and run them every two days but neither those four or NIS itself any longer find infections which I sure didn't happen before. If neither of these four find anything in the next 6 weeks they will be deleted as they have found nothing since NIS 2009 was installed 6 weeks ago. I should also mention I use the awesome SpywareBlaster blocker which I'll continue to use. Several decades have taught me free sw is rarely the best unless it's CCleaner and it's ilk.

No way would I put Norton on my system ever! I'm sure they have cleaned up their resource-pig version from a few years ago but I don't like how it tries to control everything and is extremely intrusive about file/print sharing and network traffic.

ESET seems to have done their research and works with the User versus Symantec, which tells the user what is good for them and makes it very difficult to add exceptions.

Before I'd install an norton related product on my computer,I'd smash it with a sledge hammer!

Too many other, lighter,less resource-heavy,better programs for people to use.

NIS 2009 changed all that. Before I would have agreed with you but not now.
