I see alot of posts talking about AutoRX, and how great it is. I'm sure it's a great product and all, but is there any other good oil cleaning products. Something available locally, and for cheap?

I'm looking for something to clean my, engines without causing any problems.

This is in the wrong section of the forum but I only use the Lubegard Flush . Works great and is 7 bucks a bottle at NAPA's or it can be bought direct .

To increase sales money they have an Engine protectant they recommend to use after flushing but it is not mandatory . I don't use the protectant but did flush a 4.6 Ford and stepped right into a 9 month oil interval .

This is an interesting technology thats been avaiable from them since 1996 or so . I'm very surprised more don't use this stuff . Take a peek ......

Lubegard Flush

Yes it is now in Cleaners, after I moved it here from Oil Filters where you posted it originally. And you were sent an e-mail stating that.

I have used a few Lubegard products. I have never used their engine flush but I have used the engine treatment and their power steering supplement. The engine treatment immediately seemed to make the engine run smoother. And the power steering stuff was amazing-the power steering stopped whinning immediately! Lubegard products used to be extremely well known in automatic transmission shops. I don't know if that is still true today.

If I had not discovered Auto-RX at this web site I think I would try the Lubegard engine flush. It is different then other flushes and does not have anything in it that can harm the engine (according to the people who sell Lubegard). In fact I may get the engine flush and use small amounts in oil to clean out the small engines for my weed trimmer and lawnmower. Sometimes you can find Lubegard products at NAPA stores. I have never seen their engine flush however.

I just want to add that a person could also use Neutra in a car or teuck engine to clean it. Neutra is cheaper then Auto-RX and can also be used as a fuel injector cleaner. But I would prefer Auto-RX. I think Auto-RX is worth the cost.

Neutra is an inexpensive cleaner. As Bob has noted and I tried, a full bottle (12 ounces) in the crankcase for 500 miles. Bottle says 1 ounce/quart but Bob suggested the whole nine yards. Tried this on three engines . Stuff works, noticed no ill effects during the 500 miles. Drain pan held very noticeable debris in it when the oil was drained out.

Currently doing an RX rinse in two of the engines where the Neutra was used over a year or so ago. As expected, the RX did not show much as engines were basically clean and using synthetic for years. Will see more when the rinse cycles are over.

What about lube control as an autorx alternative. Mola mentions an engine flush routine in his write up about LC.

Mystic,

I'm planning to have my PS fluid (97 T-bird with 92k miles, uses Dexron/Mercon ATF as PS fluid) flushed/refilled in a few months.

Until then, however, I'm thinking of using that Lubeguard ps-suppliment you've mentioned and used. I've heard that it's quite good.(I have a little harder steering and slight noise when cold outside, but nothing major).
--did you buy this at NAPA?

On the Lubeguard website, it says that you have to remove 4 oz. of PS fluid if the level is at full mark, and then replace this amount with the PS suppliment.

What is the best way to remove 4 oz. of fluid from the PS fluid reservoir without draining?
any feedback is very appreciated;thanks.

I ordered the Lubegard from a wen site that advertises Lubegrad. Just type in Lubegard in the Google Search Engine and you should be able to find the site.

I got the 4 oz. out using some sort of suction device-I can't remember exactly what it was.

The only thing I know is that the Lubegard power steering supplement seemed to work. The power steering had been whining in cold weather. It stopped immediately after I used the Lubegard.

Lubegard products are supposed to contain a liquid wax ester similiar to what used to be obtained from Sperm Whale oil. But the esters used in Lubegard are obtained from plants. I don't know how this liquid wax ester compares to Auto-RX or Neutra.

thanks for all the info, Mystic.

I think I'll definitely try to use it, and see what it does.
I already found some web-sites that sell Lubeguard products.(a friend of mine tells me that he saw some LG products at the local napa, too.)
You mentioned positive impressions about theLG Bio-tech engine additive; did you stop using it?

97tbird, Someone suggested a while back to use a turkey baster to remove old power steering fluid and that is just what I did with my cars. It was very easy to do. I would suggest buying a quart of Mercon ATF and remove as much of the old fluid as you can and then add the 4 ounces of Lubguard and then top off with fresh Mercon fluid. One word of caution the turkey baster will drip so put your hand under it so the old fluid will not spill everywhere.
