Noisy Engine with Mobil 1 Extended Performance

Thanks for all of the responses. After some careful thought, I think I will leave the car alone upon re-confirmation that the oil level is correct and that there are no leaks.

The increased clatter is only present under certain scenarios of light acceleration and you would probably have to be listening specifically for clatter in order to notice it. There is no abnormal noise at start-up or under hard acceleration.

I will try a different oil filter next time as a comparison...perhaps a Wix?

if the fit engine uses a timing chain than it could be that. My maxima had a noisy chain under light acceleration especially uphill. Until i started using rotella.

How often do you see the car? How sure are you the noise wasn't present with the prior oil? What does the owner say about that? Does he/she notice any difference?

When was the last time a injector/fuel system cleaner was used? Your description (noise under load) could also be dirty combustion chamber/valves, pinging or other issues like fouled fuel injectors, plugs, etc. Maybe a bottle of a fuel system cleaner with PEA will tell you something.

The dominate noise I hear from my Duratechs are the faint ticking of the injectors which I confirmed with a mechanics steoscope. It's amazing how loud they can be. No chain noise at all that I can detect.
