We recently purchased a low mileage (20k) 2010 Corolla with the 1.8 liter engine. The car is driven pretty gently, with a mix of in town and highway miles. Would Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w20 and the Fram Ultra filter allow 10,000 mile oil changes without problems?
20 years ago I tried 10,000 mile oil changes with Mobil 1 5w30 on our 1999 Escort and saw sludge buildup under the valve train. The sludge cleared up after I switched to 5,000 mile changes.
Are the new oil formulations enough better to safely allow 10,000 miles? Or should I stick with 5,000 miles?
