Or one year:

So basically Mobil says you go 15K or 1 year & they'll back you up, regardless of driving conditions? I just skimmed through quickly.

No.

I'm a little confused by their statement. Yes, I understand they are playing it safe and saying if you are operating your vehicle in severe service, follow the owner's manual for the oil change interval.
I'm confused because on Mobil 1 website, they have the video of the live teardown in Las Vegas with Lucky Cab taxis and they said the taxi were operating in severe service and yet, they were using extended drain intervals. Shouldn't they be using shorter intervals or the owner manual's intervals?

That's the fun with marketing

Taxis aren't as "severe service" as OEMs might like us to believe. When the oil is always at operating temperatures and there are no cold starts, that eliminates a lot of the "severe" stuff right there.

That addresses cold temps, but a taxi in Las Vegas (the example given) experiences the other end: oil temps, engine temps, A/C usage, idle time and frequent, hard acceleration most of us don't.

Well, given my taxi experience, doubling the OCI wasn't a stretch at all. Taxis may idle, but they usually don't accelerate too hard, and the oil being at temperatures is certainly much better than a bunch of fluctuation. We had them go a million km on 10,000 km OCIs on conventional.

They don't have to, IMO the one year change mandate has them covered them on that.

And how did you managed to put my name in the quote? Wasnt me who said that. Just Dont put words in my mouth, please.

Taxis in bigger cites here have two conditions for the loud-pedal, off and full-on. My only taxi ride was in LA, but have seen how taxis drive in NYC and elsewhere.

The elevated oil temps in hot climates can lead to sludge and varnish, offset by better wear protection of hot oil.

I plan to double OCI with M1 0W20 EP and Fram Ultra XG7317 for 2014 Accord I4 LX. I will reset OLM when it goes down to 14% but don't change oil and filter until it goes down to 15% again.

As of now this car is driven about 15-20k miles a year, if the oil look okay at the end of second OLM I may do once a year oil&filter change.

Speaking of taxis, I'd love to know exactly what gets put into the taxis here in Australia.
Typically a Holden Commodore, Ford Falcon or Toyota Avalon (First Gen/facelifted Mk3). All run on LPG gas - although thats moot these days with fuel costs.

Whats most interesting was that the Falcons (and presumably the others, too) are getting well over a million KM (>621K miles), even though some of the earlier models from the 1990's and early 2000's were plagued with head gasket issues.

In fact, I'm wondering whether the taxis ever had this big of a problem with that issue.

AFAIK (from a taxi driver I know personally), the cars are serviced fortnightly and major services every couple of months. Tires/Brakes/Suspension all refreshed several times annually.

Too slippery here for eight months out of the year for that.

In any case, we'd get the odd bit of varnish in the taxis, but I never once saw any sludge.
