Does anyone think it would hurt the transmission of a vehicle that's not supposed to be flat towed to push it about 25ft in neutral about 4 times a week?

I know being towed at highway speeds and pushed a short distance out of a garage are two different things, but over months/years the distance it has rolled in neutral adds up.

The vehicle in question is an 09 frontier 4x4, but I'm also just wondering in general for any vehicle that says transmission damage will occur from flat towing.

So it would only be a high speed problem? I wonder if it would be from lack of lubrication or just overheating.

If it was from lack of lubrication I was worried that over time the accumulated distance it was pushed might do some damage.

Don't know the specifics on a 09 Frontier, but, in general, 4x4's can be safely flat towed on the highway since the transfer case can be disengaged.

It says just that in the Owners Manual for my truck. It will not work for my truck though since mine is 2wd.

The problem is lack of lubrication and excessive heat when towing a car with the engine off. When the engine is running the pump in the trans is pumping lube the everything.

25 ft wont cause any damage because it will be going so slow that the oil can't get thrown off the bearings plus it wont get hot enough to hurt anything.

Push it all you want.

Thanks for replying everyone. I won't worry about it anymore

This is the exact reason why.
