I just read that the new Versa 1.6 is the least expensive vehicle sold in the USA. The Chevy Aveo no longer holds the spot.

The Versa 1.6 also gets decent gas mileage, better than the 1.8L version.

I test drove one of these the other day. God, you want to talk about cheap? I didn't know that they still sold cars without floor mats or air conditioners. Sticker price was eleven five for bare bones no a/c 5-speed four door. The interior looked like it was super glued together.

I went with my buddy who was on a mission to buy the cheapest new car he could get. He actually got an Aveo cheaper than the Versa, with a/c, A/T and floor mats no doubt. It seems like a very slight cut above the Versa, but he got it for less than ten grand. Sticker price was eleven seven, two hundred more than the Nissan. He would have went with the Nissan but the dealer wouldn't budge off of ten five.

my neighbor across the street just got a versa; well, he's had it for the past year. since day one, it's sounded like chrap, ticking and knocking. you get what you pay for, most of the times less.

For 10.5 grand you can buy floormats at walmart.

They are options in most cars man, usually a 75 dollar option.

Give me a nissan with a warranty, and AC, and a stick. Many people would want that.

But with how chevy is blowing out Cobalts, and Aveo's, they make the most sense to me right now. You could get one with an Automatic trans very cheap.

I absolutely love my Aveo. I accept it for the commuter car that it is and it only takes $21 to fill it to full after the fuel light comes on. I usually get over 370 miles for each fillup. :) My Trailblazeer gets about 300 miles per tank but holds 7 gallons more than the Aveo. For a VERY cheap car it rides nice, heat, AC and stereo work well and it gets me to work everyday.

I've rented Aveos, but they all had automatic transmissions of course so were horrible to drive.

I checked out the Nissan Versa, Honda Fit, and Toyota Yaris at an auto show, shortly after all three were introduced. I figured the trim falling the Versa was just normal wear-and-tear at an auto show -- but it wasn't falling off the other econoboxes that day.

IMO the Fit is probably the best of them (Aveo included) and better than the Hyundai and Kia models in that class. It costs more but you get what you pay for. The Versa has more interior room, but is ugly and cheap. The Yaris used to be the cheapest car in that class -- if the Versa is now the cheapest, it means Nissan is having trouble selling them and probably for good reasons.

Yeah I know it's still listed as an option

, but have you ever gone to a car lot to test drive a new car and there not been floor mats and trunk mats? Cheap. BTW- no spare tire, can of fix-a-flat. At least the Aveo came standard with a donut.

No question that the Fit is a better vehicle but it costs $4500 more than the Aveo that I bought. $4500 translates into approx 2000 extra gallons of fuel that I can buy and at current prices. That translates into 70000 miles I can drive for "free" for buying the Aveo over the Fit (assuming 35mpg...I'm actually getting 36)

Yes, I've seen new cars with power locks, windows, and a stereo with aux jack and no floormats from the dealer.

Newer Cadilacs only come with a can of fix-a-flat and the spare is an option. So if they do that with a higher end car then it must be an industry trend.

How often do you get a flat anyway?

With the standard TPMS sensors in all vehicles, you'll usually get enough warning to get to a service station in time.

How about 7 out of 8 tires over 2 years? seriously, it depends on where you drive.

Does the Versa have dedicated storage space for a spare should you want to purchase one? I wouldn't pull a trailer without a spare tire on hand let alone drive a vehicle without one. I've sat in a few Versi, but not driven one. Looks/feels like a decent car to me for ~$10K. I don't get people's expectations. $10K new hasn't bought you squat for the last what... 20 something years?

What's a "service station"? I'd head for a tire shop or a dealership for assistance.

Come on guys, were talking about NISSAN here. out of the big Japanese 3 cars, I equate them with Dodge out of the big 3 here. At least, the engine doesn't have the Sentra 1.8L headgasket eater.

Hard to believe that a Versa is cheaper than a Hyundai Accent. Hyundai used to undercut the 2nd cheapest cars available by at least a couple thousand dollars. Now Nissan has managed to slip one beneath them. Amazing.

I like the looks of the Accent and the Versa. I think I'd spring for the Fit, though. Especially since the 09 is supposed to have taller gearing.
