I do not know if Nissan is being conservative or they know something we don't... but nissan recommends 3750 miles between oil changes for my 04 SpecV. This car is not very easy on oil, chain driven, most of them are driven hard, etc.. but still that number seems pretty conservative... I try to do 5000 with synthetic even though it sees a lot of track time

A 2009 Pathfinder 4.0 V6 takes 5.5 qts but uses a pretty small filter. Nissan recommends 3750 severe and 7500 normal OCI

3750/7500 were the same OCI's that were listed in my '97 Quest owners manual. I guess it must work for either engine longevity or for Nissan's warranty claims. Has any experienced oil related engine trouble with their Nissan? I didn't, but then again back then I was old school 3k mi OCI'er.

This is the reason that I'm going conventional on my next OCI. If I'm going to dump it every 3,750, why should I keep PP in it? I've got some MC5K and a Nissan 9E000 filter waiting!

Since the VQ is having some timing chain guide issues and I don't want to get the run around if it happens to mine; I'm changing every 3,750 and using a Nissan filter (and keeping all receipts and really good records).

all nissans are 3750/7500

I do 7500 M1 EP
1 more change left then switching to

M1 0W40 and will continue 7500 since I do mostly city
but recently more highway. and the VQ35 is even harder on oil.

Wonder why an odd number like 3750? Why not 3500 or 4000? That probably makes some people (who don't know oil like us) think that they have to do it exactly at 3750 or risk engine harm.

Perhaps 1/2 of 7500 (3750) seems less arbitrary to the folks at Nissan than 7/15 of 7500 (3500), or 8/15 of 7500 (4000)??

Nissan thinks their drivers average about 15k miles a year so they divide that number by 4 which gives you 3750.

So their OCI is 4 months or 3750k miles.

It's probably because they converted from metric.

6000 km = 3750 miles

And our severe service OCI up here in Canada is 6000 km. Makes sense to me

Exactly.

was about to mention the metric conversion is a fact... but of course a conspiracy (which i knew was coming) was posted first lol

"(who don't know oil like us)" but understand that outside of the US there is this little measurement known as metric...

My 91 pathfinder severe service interval is 3750 miles but it only holds 3 1/4 qts..The wifes 04 Accord V6 severe service is also 3750 miles as well and it holds 4 1/4 qts..

Nissan seems to have an above average number of engine problems for a manufacturer whose engines are exceptionally complex, as far as I can tell. At least that's what Johnny248's posts seem to say. (He's works in Nissan service). So, I would play it safe and just change the oil every 3750 or 6 months. At least I will be, since I have a Nissan Extended Warranty for the next 8 years and 120k miles.

Me too! Extended for 6 years/100k miles here too!

Then it is 3750 or 3 months, whichever comes first.
The normal service is 7500 or 6 months.

My 2000 Nissan Frontier has over 114k miles on it and I changed the oil at over 9,000 miles, OCI (Castrol Synthetic Blend GTX for the 9k). I have had over 114 thousand miles on just normal maintenance and it was beyond the 3,750 mile oil change, and it keeps on running. The service writer told me that the 2.4 liter motor was virtually bullet-proof and to hang on to the vehicle. Per the service writer, "They (Nissan) don't make 'em like that anymore. I think that the next oil change will happen when the truck gets to 125k miles.

My 2 cents worth.
