Nice first impression, nvidia.

So I decided to purchase a NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 and sell my 7850. Why? Because I figured I would give NVIDIA a try again. The last nvidia card I owned was a Geforce 6600GT from years ago. Then, all I had was AMD/ATi. Sapphire 2600XT, Powercolor 4670, two XFX 5770s, and and XFX 7850. All have been absolutely flawless. I decide since the new GTX 760 is a really good bang/buck card, and quite a bit better than my 7850, that I'd give it a try.

Well, it worked for about half an hour. Played euro truck simulator 2, all is going well. Suddenly, black screen. Hmmm. Try to reboot, no POST. Was like, wat. Ok, try again and again. no change. No POST, no output to monitors. Remove card, put card back in. Now, it boots straight to integrated graphics (I had my 2nd monitor off the integrated GPU). Motherboard and windows do not detect the card. Hmmmmmm..

I swap my 7850 back in. All is back to normal, works perfectly.
Try 760 again. Nope, boots straight to integrated graphics again. Welp, [censored].

Time to be extremely inconvenienced, have to go to post office first thing in morning, pay more money to ship it back to newegg and wait weeks for replacement. I just love the excellent QA these days.

This is the specific card in question. For $260 I expect a card that will work for longer than half an hour. I guess that's too much to ask.

WCG I've been lazy I'll eventually start it. I'm just extremely irritated at terribad quality control.

And yeah, it always sucks when you buy something that is a good brand and should be excellent and it ends up being a POS. Certainly doesn't do much for your confidence in the product, that's for sure.

Not nvidia's fault its Asus and theres your problem lol. I've been using nvidia for years no issues. Been running my EVGA GTX 780 since they launched and its been flawless.

Any rate, I've had my EVGA GTX 560 for a year and a half now with no issues. Oddly enough it was a 6770 that died early on for me. Sapphire IMO was the most PITA company to try and RMA something with.

Did you download the latest driver for it? or maybe, check your power supply? Just curious, because I've nothing but great graphics from n'vidia and [censored] luck from ATI.

Odd. I RMA'd a Sapphire Reference 5870 with a bad fan and had no problems. Only thing was, they sent me an email, "We have no more of those, but we can send you our [custom cooler 5870]."
I said yeah, sure, whatever.

Ive used both brands, and have not really had any trouble with either that I can recall. Ive been stuck on ATi/AMD as my go-to for heavy duty graphics for some time now, though. Im just used to them I guess.

It is the nature of the business. You can test a component only to have it fail hours later.

All testing proves is that it works and did not fail during the test.

The motherboard would not detect the card. Meaning if the card was in the system, it would boot to the integrated graphics, not the card.

I have owned dozens of cards from each vendor, and I can say that the only cards I have had issues with are from ASUS and Leadtek/Winforce.

I've actually had a lot of issues with ASUS but everyone still seems to love them.

I've had literally hundreds of ASUS cards that have been very good. Most cards I've had issues with are Gigabyte and MSI

i've been trucking along with gtx 460's for awhile, they are perfect for 1080p (1920x1080) gaming and can be had for 50-80 bucks now. i still do not really see a compelling reason to upgrade for perhaps another year or so.

Given Nvidia's recent debacle with their drivers bricking video cards, i'm also no longer inclined to automatically download their latest either.

Thanks for sharing your experience, bad as it was. I will give AMD a chance very likely next time around.

After you said that I did a little looking up about it. It apperas the WHQL 320.18 drivers were killing some cards after artifacts and stuff. The most recent 320.49 WHQL and 326.19 Beta drivers appear so far to be fine. I actually ended up returning for refund defective (Newegg gave me a free UPS Label) and ordering the Gigabyte Windforce 3 version, which arrives today. I'll post updates tonight and hope that this one works a bit better.

I'm a big fan of AMD graphics cards too.
I am running a 560 right now which seems to be decent, but I think my next card will be another AMD.
I debated buying a 760 too actually, would be a 3 fan Gigabyte version if I did. Not in any huge rush... That is subject to change.
