I've got a 1996 Chevy C1500 5.7L with 152k miles. I had used Castrol GTX 10w30 HM and a Wix filter and it ran great, engine smooth as always and very quiet. I just got a ton of Valvoline NextGen ML 10w40 on clearance and with the $5 off coupons, used that on the last oil change with a Wix filter, and it doesn't seem to run so smooth, and the motor is a little noisy, is it just me or? What should I do?

Give it time. Let ML lay down it's chemistry and let it work a bit before jumping.

There is something called "seating" which can take place when switching from one brand to another. A spike in oil consumption going from one brand to another is not uncommom and part of this process.

I have a 98 Suburban 5.7 and the MaxLife has been the quietest running I have used ever. Not even some of the other top marketed synthetics have been as quiet. Maybe it is the thicker grade making noise for you? However, I have run all sorts of different weights in mine and that never really caused excessive noise.

I actually made a thread not long ago about how NextGen Maxlife quieted down the valvetrain in a 2000 Civic. I would definitely give it some time but I'd be surprised if it still ends up being noisier than before.

I have a high opinion of Maxlife and I've used it with great results in several of our cars, it was however very noisy in my Jeep whereas Castrol HM was very smooth and quiet.

It never quieted down in my Jeep, got louder if anything finally at 2.5k I couldn't stand it anymore and dumped it early. Still use it in the cars though. Wait and see which way it goes for you I guess.

I cant say the same thing with NexGen ML 10w-40 in place of M1 HM 10w-40 in my BMW.

I also have NG ML 5w30 in my truck and like it!

I haven't noticed any differences in noise. I tried G-Oil 5W30 SM, NextGen 5W20, 5W30, and MaxLife NextGen 5W20 and 5W30 in the same cars.

Maxlife NG has been really good in my 318i.
Leaks/consumption are greatly reduced, the engine is as smooth and quiet as a high revving four cylinder can be and I had a really clean UOA with this oil.
I'm very pleased with the results I've seen with the FAR 10W-40 I've used for the last several changes.
