Got a Carquest premium here. Only had about 3k miles on it as I’m trying to clean up an old engine with unknown history. Was running 1qt HPL EC + 4qt Valvoline advance 5w-30 with several top ups with Castro gtx 5/30.
2004 Nissan VQ35 motor @ 180k miles. Burns quite a bit of oil, rattles for a second on cold start, and was running rough between 3-4k rpm but @Mechanician suggested I plug the EGR and that actually smoothed it out quite a bit. Other than that it idles smooth and quiet and gets around fine. No knocking or anything like that.
Lots of carbon and metal flakes which are not magnetic. Not sure what’s going on inside this thing but if it blows up it’s not the end of the world.
The filter seemed to do its job. Pleat spacing was perfect all around. Not sure the ADBV was perfect as most of the oil drained out just sitting upside down for a couple minutes. Oh and the sticker fell off
