Yes. Trying to find Computer Management now takes more clicks. Installing a multi-purpose Terminal Server. We have to retrain the user base on how to use Windows, not just the server and the app(s) going on it.

Alright, c'mon. Obviously, Microsoft didn't set out to design an interface that would alienate people. Microsoft is one of, or the, largest software companies in the world. I'm certain that Windows 8 did well in consumer review panels and all of the testing they did prior to such a release. If they knew it would have the reception it's had, they would not have went to production with it.

It's a simple case of the market not having the reaction they thought it would have. Nobody needs to get fired over it. The company is apparently responding to market input and is making some moderate-to-large changes to their next version to address the market's concerns.

If I got fired everytime I made a mistake at work, I'd be on my...well...I'd have had a LOT of employers by now.

The beta/technet forums were FULL of comments along the line of "you need to give people a way to use the classic interface".

I wouldn't be so sure that it did well.

I think they wanted to make all the products look the same.

Tablets and smartphones is where the consumer product growth is, and someone thought they could capitalize on this by making the desktop look like the table and smart phone.

Real server admins know Windows. And Unix. And Novell (dating myself)....

Absolutely correct.

Initially when the pre-release build with the OPTION to use a default option to boot directly to the desktop was still present the reviews were mixed but most reviewers and beta testers were OK with Metro UI because you were not FORCED to boot into it all the time. When that option was removed for the release product all [censored] broke lose as almost EVERYONE complained.

I do think that all those at MS that signed off on the final release to market should be FIRED ASAP!

I've finally decided to upgrade from Vista Ultimate SP2 to Windows 8 SP1 when it's released. Tired of the continuing performance problems of Vista.

Is a parallel version of Vista Ultimate available for Win 8 or should I just upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate, instead?
 
Those complaining about win 8 have no legitimate complaint. It's easily, and freely modified to work like the old OS.

Win 8 is really fast, capable, stable and powerful. Those complaining really are not understanding the advantages.

Respectfully, corporations do.

1000's of people where I work have no ability to reconfigure machines, let alone install software which I assume needs to be done to "make it look like it used to" on boot up.

The productivity lost would be staggering while people relearned something not particularly germaine to what they use a computer for. It is analogous to providing them with a "more efficient" keyboard, with all the keys moved around.

W8 users should thank the long arm of the corporate support agreement.

Microsoft can also make a really fast, capable, stable and powerful operating system without wrapping it in a silly interface.

I don't see any advantage to it over a traditional desktop and Start menu. If the operating system is getting in the way, then it's not doing its job very well.

Exactly this. I can't even imagine the backlash if we rolled out Windows 8 to everyone here.
 
Microsoft Windows is terrible, and Microsoft should feel terrible.
I have never seen a software company try so desperately to be an industry favorite and try to win hearts, and fail so badly. With the amount of money backing their campaigns, they should have uncontacted aboriginal tribes in the bush of South America begging for their OS. But nobody wants it. Nobody wants Windows Phone, Nobody wanted Zune, nobody actually wants windows, despite since it's inception having been shoved down everyone's throats.
