$110 + core + tax. It was about time the wife’s 7.5 yr old battery needed to be replaced despite Batteryminder maintenance. Good things always have to come to an end. Ancel BA101 a 3/25 date code on a 600 CCA. Surprise surprise surprise on the soh 766 CCA. The voltage at 12.7V means it was still fully ready to go into the car. Tomorrow, I will post the Batteryminder 2012 charging profile and question whether it was fully charged.

Has to be a Plus if the price was $110. The Maxx will be closer to $140-150.
Plus $110. For testing purposes bring a pair of pliers or a screwdriver to remove the protective terminal caps. I could only get one set off for testing a battery. Used a clamp-on 10 milliamp resolution DC meter and a Fluke DVM

Went through the 2012 charging profile
7-8pm constant current 2.0amp(did not measure)
8-1030pm constant voltage measured 14.4V @0.650 amps(expect the current to drop slowly)
1030-11pm constant voltage at 11pm measured 0.240 amps ( goes to float voltage when below 0.5 amp detected)
11pm float voltage 12.42V @0.240
04-20-25
Next morning
6am float voltage @80 milliamps
1 hr rest
Fully serviced and officially ready to go into service.
7am
New BA101 measurement - really not much of a change. I am very surprised.
Reconnected to 2012 once again
7:15am took 15min to go through the profile to get to float maintenance mode. This is normal for a fully charged battery.
It is unfortunate that in many situations time/location/life’s priorities does not allow for a properly prepare the battery.

exactly! I have the same tester and that's the number I gravitate towards. It's always been my experience that the CCA is way up there as it's usually 60F+ when I test a new battery, never 0F.awesome internal resistance numbers! you definitely got a good one!

We just joined BJ's again net free ($18 to join, $20 reward once $60 spent, $15 off $200 purchase, so $18 - $35 = -$17 to us to join). I noticed their batteries look just like Costco, only they have a free replacement warranty. Can't remember if anyone here has gotten their Interstate batteries or not. I kind of look back and wonder how Costco is that powerful--to change the warranty to pro rata period? They did shop for a branded credit card with a 0% interchange, so they have a bully factor when it comes to business partners.

I looked through my pics for the last battery test results from a swap. Here’s 8/10/24, 24F, tested at Costco (I can see the mat is from my wife’s SUV). Interestingly I didn’t test it again after charging over night (I think family priorities have changed me), as pics next day is me having installed it.

That’s the Costco Interstate. Unfortunately, they did away with the replacement warranty (although haven’t had any fail).
ya I've had that happen before, really tough to remove those caps.
and your retesting of the battery, still good, between 3.91 and 4.01Mohms.. I've seen the BA101 tester that I have vary about that much between testing. Still a great battery!

When I worked at a tire store it was good PR to test a new battery for the customer to "prove" it was at least as good as its rating because it was "so fresh."

Gotcha. I used a pair-of-pliees from the stores tool isle to remove the plastic terminal caps, then put it back in the same place I got it from when I was done using it.

WHY??? How come everytime I buy a battery I go to the auto parts store and spend a ton more on a battery. These everstarts are actually pretty good, especially for the price.
Auto parts stores often charge more for the same thing / different brand label. They have their overhead, to maintain a physical store that only sells auto parts.
I stopped buying parts at local auto parts stores long ago except for two situations.
1) Autozone sometimes has a competitive price for something with a lifetime warranty, and their store is very nearby, and I have redundant vehicles, so have a spare to go get a replacement part, or if it's a wear item like brake pads. I buy autozone lifetime warranty pads and get free pads for the life of the vehicle, which matters more to me because I tend to keep vehicles long term.
2) It's a rush job. If a vehicle is going to be towed, or has to be back in service ASAP, getting the part as fast as possible can be worth some money.
I used to shop at Advance Auto but don't see any reason to these days, after they reduced the prevalence of their discount coupons so they don't beat anyone else on price, or warranty, or part quality. There's just too much competition in my area to shop there.

Besides age, the state of charge, temperature of the battery, how long it's been since last driven, and how good of a connection your battery tester has, all have effects on what these modern battery testers will read as the CCA and internal resistance of a battery.
These modern battery testers are very good, but require a very clean connection right on the terminals of the battery or the connectors on those terminals. They can't produce an accurate reading at a jump stud located several feet from the battery. The resistance of the wire from the battery to a remote jump stud will totally throw off these modern battery capacity meters. Rember, they are measuring ( calculating ) the battery internal resistance in milli-ohms ( 1 / 1000 ) of an ohm. Actually, they read down to 1 / 100 of a milli-ohm ( 1 / 100,000 ) of an ohm. So resistance of wire of a remote jump stud does totally throw off these battery testers.

I noticed a 15 percent discount coupon code yesterday on their website. Not sure if it was their before or what, but I missed it. That's a good point about overhead though.

I have both a diesel truck and a boat with two everstart batteries each from 2019. Occassionally, I'll plug a charger in to top them off. Water got added to the truck batteries last year. It's too hard to add water to the boat batteries. I think the truck is a group 65 and the boat is a 24
Buy on an account, the discount on batteries is usually quite good. I've seen 30-40% off shelf price.
Granted I buy quite a few batteries a year.
