I've never noticed such a smell on any filter I've used. The TRD is a new choice for me. It's a cartridge filter (PTR43-00082). So, is such a smell "normal" for this filter? I doubt it, but have to ask. If the filter somehow got contaminated with gasoline, would it's performance be affected in any way? Thanks!

On line from a Toyota dealer in SoCal through Amazon. Was shipped directly from the dealer.
Do you mean it smells like gas straight out of the box or you changed it and the old one smells like gas?
New filter, boxed and wrapped in a plastic bag, smells like gas.
If so, it's probably just the odor of the materials.

I wouldn't worry about it. I am not sure who manufacturers it now, but several years back, the RoyalPurple/TRD/Amsoil filters had 'similarities'.

Most likely solvent from the glue or other such manufacturing relic.
I wouldn't worry about it. You can always leave it out overnight to let it flash off if you really want to.
I order through Amazon from the same dealer (PTR43-00079) and you are correct. They do have a funky smell to them new !
