New tool thread

My new drill guide. The tumbled finish is a nice touch.

I bought a pair of Makita corded tools a few months ago.
The first is a HR2641 SDS-Plus 1" hammer drill. I choose the Makita over the less expensive Bosch drill because the Makita has an anti-vibration mechanism and a locking power switch.
The second tool is a JR3070CT 15-amp reciprocating saw. I've used it several times cutting down trees, and it's a beast.
Both Makitas are made in China.

-a second Milwaukee 2854. I actually ordered this then stumbled upon the clearance kits at HD for $125 but I can use two in the shop
-6x48" sanding belts
-some screw machine drills
-Accupro end mills at good pricing thanks to the heads up from @Zee09
-my recent foray into alternators left me with the realization I am woefully lacking in heavy duty soldering capacity, so American Beauty 200W and 330W soldering irons.

New 8” bench grinder. Jet. I use the wire wheel all the time, it’s a shop staple, so, I upgraded from a 30+ year old Craftsman 6” when Amazon days had this Jet at a reasonable price. I have already replaced the coarse grinding wheel with a new wire wheel.

Some new, finer grinding wheels are coming from Amazon soon. The stock wheels, one 36, one 60, are rough, and good for rapid stock removal, but I will use this for sharpening chisels, or other finer work, so, I’ll fit the fine wheels, and keep the stock wheels for when I need that capability. I have other sharpening set ups for my woodworking tools at home, including a Grizzly knock off of a Tormek, and a variable speed 8” bench grinder.

This one is for my shop, focused on automotive work.

A good friend has always wanted a bench grinder - so, I gave him the Craftsman, which comes with work lights built in, along with two extra grinding wheels, an extra wire wheel, and the original owners manual.

Still figuring out the dust collection. They’re 2” outside diameter, so, a shop vac doesn’t fit exactly. I would like a permanently mounted solution into which I can plug in the shop vac.

I also have a work light on the way for it.

So far, the extra power is great. It runs smooth. I like it.

My first visit to a Menards store. Coming back from Pittsburgh we passed thru Westover West Virginia where this store is located it’s like an upscale Rural King with a whole grocery section and everything. Absolutely amazing store. And I found some old stock USA made “speed” screwdrivers the shank rotates really cool. Picked those up. Got a really long 24 inch flat head. I don’t have one quite that long so for $8.89 I said why not. And a 10mm wrench made in Taiwan not Vietnam like most of their wrenches were. Well worth a visit if you have never went to one of these stores before. I was going to get a socket too but they only have 12 points and cheap 12 point sockets are usually bad news. Plus I have nearing 2,500 sockets so I don’t need one lol 😂. The screwdrivers are just plain cool though.

I busted out a two foot long screwdriver once to do something and the guy working with me said What is that? Did the doctor tell you to stay away from work?
I still laugh at that.

I used to work with a guy that billed himself as " The best equipped Technician in the company " . I told him one day that I had a tool he didn't have . He told me to prove it . I pulled out a 24 inch Quick-Wedge holding screwdriver and he had to eat his words . Then he went and started bugging our Foreman to order him one . :geek:

Picked up this socket. Probably paid too much for it at $18 but it was convenient. I will need this tomorrow when I replace my ABS tone ring on my Ford Escape. 3 out of 4 are 32mm the front passenger is a 31mm it’s been replaced at some point. I have to be productive during vacation time lol. I have several projects to do this week now that we are back from Pittsburgh. The Escape limps when you make a slow turn because this ring is broken and it makes it kind of slide too and it takes forever to make the turn with it limping. The other side split about 2 years ago. It’s a New York car so everything is rusty so I sprayed the heck out of this axle but hoping I can get it off with no issues. I wanted to order the socket but I don’t want to be down a car and won’t have time to do it at the end of the week or weekend. I have my truck but I hate driving it because it has no air and it’s not that safe for the drivers we have around here.
