New tool thread

When I worked in my family's diesel generator business, I wanted a Jet Wash or Insta Clean so **** bad. My father was so cheap and then my brother followed right in his footsteps. It was insane how much time we used to spend washing parts.

Nice score, Cline.

Williams USA 1/4 drive 6pt shallow and deep socket sets.

These are nice, will probably order the 12pt sets.

Ko-ken 1/4” drive, 12 pt, 10mm and 13mm sockets; $7.02 delivered
kokenusa.com

These are the thinest walled 1/4” drive, 12pt sockets I own. Thinner than Williams by a smidge.

The finish is impeccable.

I have a feeling you got me making a trip to HD tomorrow.............
Well of course the $x.52 level is ~75% off original retail which means it's been in markdown for a long time. I think I just got lucky because these had not been updated as the price dropped. And this was the last set my store had.

Thanks for the heads up, I checked the site after posting and the two HD stores I shop at don't have them.

It at least used to be HD's website would stop reflecting products once they entered the clearance phase. Not sure if that's still the case.

It's worth a look when you're in-store but not sure I'd make a trip just for this.

Exactly, their online inventory and Lowe's online inventory leave a lot to the imagination around here. I was looking at a Demolition screwdriver Lowe's had online for a great price. It was in stock, 3 pcs. I made the trip first thing on a Saturday morning, they had none. My bet is items that are candidates for the five finger discount still show up in online inventory after they walk out the door unpaid for. I need light bulbs so I might have a look for those pliers.

I'd post an image of a black oxide impact socket, but who hasn't seen these before?

Got home from Modesto on Thursday night after a dinner at the Redwood Cafe. Next morning, the RR tire (Lexus) was flat.

Couldn't get the lug nuts off (*$##! tire shops). Fired up the compressor, unrolled the hose and got the Chicago Pneumatic 1/2 impact gun. I didn't have a 21mm impact socket. The impact gun came with sockets in the storage case but it skipped over from 3/4" to 7/8"

New tool: Went to Ace Hardware as they carry Craftsman tools but they have no impact sockets. Went to Harbor Freight and got a Pittsburgh 21mm deep socket that was dripping in oil. Five bucks, the oil was free.

After I have the tire repaired, I'm going to break all the lug nuts loose and re-torque them at the specified 76 ft-lb.

Not every shop needs a spray cabinet, But if you're doing a lot of engine/transmission work....You can't have mechanics that could be making money hand washing parts that don't need to be hand washed. Rarely will a business short of a machine/transmission shop invest in one which I always found odd. It's always those same owners/managers that want things done faster......
Had one bring in a teenager to wash parts, Not only was he slow, He was really bad at it & would spill mineral sprints all over the floor as he had no idea what he was doing.

Expensive machines/equipment can take years to pay off, And this machine will most certainly take time to pay for itself.

Scored a Bison 8" 3 jaw chuck extremely cheap, NOS from 1997 & was locked up. Took the risk & bought it.
The grease they used to manufacture it had dried out, And I mean DRIED out sticking everything together like glue. Spent 10 hours disassembling, cleaning, & assembly.
Spent another 3 hours machining the register as the chuck register is 2.250" & the register on my lathe spindle is 2.280". I mounted the chuck adapter plate backwards directly to the spindle & let it bottom ledge of the register.....Using some shim stock to get it indicated in.......Using 3/4" Boring Bar to cut out the .030", Actual .0297 oversize to fit the register tighter.

I didn't have high expectations as I have no way to true this chuck after install like the old one, Well it ended up surpassing those expectations by A LOT!!!
Best I can tell it's under .001" runout, The machine runs 1000 times smoother. I'm almost scared to remove this chuck because what if this is a lightning strike scenario?

Bet you guys are tired of my lathe posts?

Yep, just never remove that chuck and you're golden. I'm kidding, I don't know if it'll be repeatable.

To help you spend your $, I can't remember if I already told you to get some of the magnetic 3-jaw chuck stops? If not, you're welcome
